    Venice vacation....which bike?

I'll be coming to Venice Beach this week with my family. I'm trying to decide which bike to bring. I'd prefer to hit some mtn trails, but if it involves a long drive to a trailhead I don't think my wife will allow it. But, if there are some near by trails a mtn bike would be my top choice. Otherwise, I could bring a road bike or a CX bike or my Surly Pugsly jr. bike (endomorph tire up front, 3.0 in the rear) for some beach crusising action.

I'm thinking I'd only be able to get out early mornings for a few hours before the family wakes up. Any info on the area would be great. Thanks.

look up some singletrack in Santa Monica mountains.
if you drive out there early in the am, there isn't much traffic..

Check out kenter trail. has some fun single track, but is more known for the "rolling" section and ravine gap

There is no shortage of places to ride on dirt near Venice.
