Listen! Two days epic rides - SoCal - where?!?

I'm planning on a couple days of epic rides somewhere here in SoCal, spending the night in some camping area, possibly within 400 miles of LA. (and excluding Santa Monica Mtns, which are my usual rides)

Love singletracks and good amount of climbing, prefer woods to desert... was thinking about Mammoth too, but the bike park will open on the 23rd

Where would you go? Shoot your suggestions please
    Thanks!

Not sure what your idea of Epic is but here is a couple of the best So-Cal has to offer.

Within 400 miles of LA can almost put in in Tahoe or Downieville.

Seems like Noble Cyn is the place to go: lot's of singletrack and plenty trails to ride for 2 days.
I was thinking more of some place north, as I'm concerned about the heat: any idea what temp top expect in Noble right now?
Any suggestions on campgrounds to spend the night?

    Thanks guys, appreciate your help/replies

Nobel canyon and the Cuyamacas are great. Camping on the weekends will be tough because these campgrounds are usually booked way in advance. You might have a chance during the week.
    Try this link:

There is also the Wiliam Heise campground in Julian, check out this link:

Right now temps are in the upper 70's but it has been relatively cool. Usually expect hot weather in the upper 80's. Go ride early and beat the heat. Have fun!

    Downieville is epic

Laguna/El Prado is a campground at the top of noble (off sunrise highway). There is hardly ever anyone camping there, except for the usual summer holiday weekends.

I second the vote for Downieville. We just got back from there. Here's a link to a thread about our trip.

    Kernville area

The Cannell Trail/Plunge and Just Outstanding, in the Kernville area. I haven't done JO but I've done the Cannell nine times now and it certainly qualifies as an epic. We're doing it this Saturday (6/17). Both rides are described in this thread from last summer: Cannell Trail/Plunge, CA pics

    another vote for Kernville

I know I am biased because I live here But the riding is great around here. Cannel and Just Outstanding are the signiture rides but there are many others you can do. You could ride for two weeks and not do the same trail twice. There is lots of camping, cool temps, and big trees at the higher elevations.
