    Temecula - Vail Lake

Can anyone local comment on the trail conditions at Vail Lake - Temecula. Yeah, I know it's raining, I have the weather channel. Guys from Arizona are curious what the actual trail is like after it rains so we can choose gear accordingly. Thanks in advance.

The trails at Vail are sandy and normally drain pretty well; I wouldn't anticipate sticky mud but there may be standing water in some spots. We have had a hellacious amount of rain the last three days or so (by SoCal standards), 6 inches or so; I would plan accordingly and bring what you need,
The good news is that the rain is due to blow out tomorrow so Saturday should be relatively dry. Fingers crossed!

I have some friends who will be up there later today to set up our pit; I'll post another report when I hear from them.

Word from Vail is that the course is in pretty good shape; no mud & no standing water. It's currently cold & showery but the worst is supposed to be done and conditions should improve over the next 24 hrs.

I'll post again tomorrow if I get more details.

yeah - I've ridden the course in the rain and it only needs about 40min after the rain stops to be ridiculous fun and fast.

Latest from Vail - heavy showers this AM but drying off now. There is some "bogginess" at the very end of the course and the organizers may do a slight re-route to avoid it.

Overall, trail conditions are looking much better than could be expected considering the amount of rain...

Hope to see you all tomorrow.

    NIce pics!
What a great day! I have never seen the Vail dirt in such slick & slimy conditions, I guess that we are spoiled here in SoCal! I had totally the wrong tire on the back, it packed up with mud completely and just spun out whenever I tried to hammer up a climb. Thanks to Jason and his trail crew the course was in excellent shape considering the amount of rain, although I could have done without the two mudholes that caused so much havoc. It was fun to watch all the crashes on that last downhill section though! Hope nobody got hurt too badly.

Onwards to June! Anyone know the location yet?

Is Vail Lake open to the public? I wanted to check the place out this weekend but my friend says that place is on private property? I'm pretty new to mtn biking so I apologize if that's a dumb question.

Yes, $5.00 and a signed waiver will get you in for the day.

Sweet, thanks! BTW: Do you have the address to the entrance or a link to their webpage by chance?

Beware of Mapquest, it will send you the wrong way! From I-15 take the 79S/Temecula Parkway exit and head east, just keep going straight for about 9 miles, Vail is on the left just after Woodchuck Road.

They give you a map when you stop at the entrance to pay and sign the waiver.

Yeah, but that map sucks! Best to go with someone who knows their way around, at least the first time. I guess thats good advice for any new ride...

there are 4 main lines down from the top. no shuttling, gotta pedal up the fire road or push it up the run.

i like it there and go from SD to there about once a month.

ROWDY, can you comment on the trails themselves there?
Are they DH or more XC/AM?

I want to head out there and check things out, it's just that I have not heard alot of buzz about the place.
What's the deal with the trails. what are they like?
Fast flowy stuff or rocky, sandy tight stuff?

    Berms, jumps, etc.??

    Thanks for any help!
