    Santiago Oaks trails open???

Probably my least favorite thing this year was the fires at Santiago Oaks that closed the trails. Last I heard all the lower trails were open and the fireroads too, but the singletrack(all the fun trails) were still closed.

Does anyone know if it is still closed or if they've opened it back up yet?

As far as I know they are open. I rode them about a month ago. There are a handful of trails they have not reopened but most of the fun stuff is good to go. When I rode last Waterfall was closed as well as the short cut single track on the second biatch.

in other words, "yes, all the fun stuff is still closed and nobody is saying when or if it will be reopened."

chutes/zips is open, and in my opinion that s/t is a blast. not as tech as the others, but still fun to rail the turns and glide over some of the chunk when coming down from the top play area.

According the the Sr. Ranger at the RRTAC meeting Monday night; Goat Trail is now open. So as far as I can tell, it's currently the B's, Chutes, Goat, and the Anaheim Hills Triail that are opened.

There may be more, but I have not personally seen any other open trail signs.

    Hope this helps

I agree with Mr. Dee. Waterfall isn't open, but Chutes/Zips is still an f-ing blast!!!

It's going to be a fun ride. Then hit the Path sale and spend some $$.

    The New Gelded Goat

Here's a before and after look at Goat/Waterfall. Photo 1 refers to Marshall Willanholly's first picture and Photo 2 refers to the second one. The start of the green line at the far right is the beginning of Goat. The red line bypasses all the steep rocky, rutted goodness that made Goat so much fun and substitutes a smooth singletrack trail. I believe the singltrack was an existing trail.

Here's another look at the area around Photo 2 (where the red line rejoins the green line in the satellite image). You can see where the old trail came down from the upper left, right where the hiker is jumping the fence into the closed area.

At least there's still some fun to be had at the bottom.

    Marshall Willanholly:

    And my rotund self:

Does anyone know if the changes are permanent? Will we ever be able to ride the original line?

Thanks Clyde. It's very disappointing. One less advanced trail. Soon we will all be in lycra and riding XC bikes. Hello 90's!

I'm pretty sure the bypass was there before.

    More info.

That part of the trail has been there for a long time, we called it BillyGoat, cause its tamer than Goat. Sux about the detour. The Oaks WAS my fav, not any more.

    shitty

Anyone care to wager that Bobcat will ever be reopened to bikes? I need some easy money. Sad times.
