    If i had an out of town guest and could only take them on one SD ride, it would be the kiosk on sunrise hyw. Our preferred route starts with a clockwise loop around the meadow. Big Laguna Trail - Escondido Ravine - Red Tail Spur - Aqua Dulce - Gatos Spur - Chico Ravine - Gatos Spur (yes, twice ) - Done

    Runs aprox 20 miles and 1700 ele gain with above route, but you can make endless alterations for more or less time in the saddle.

    Honorable mentions if you have time for more than one ride;
    Noble Canyon (yea...)
    Hollenbeck (8 miles up 4 down. weeeeeeeeeeee)
    Spring/oak/sycamore canyons (two seperate rides that we have been connecting lately)
    Sweetwater (Some VERY fun sections, but also some challenging terrain. Not a huge fan of those trail builders, but the ride is worth a mention)
    Grand Cuyamaca loop (7 mile downhill to end ride ftw)

    I've never been out to the mount laguna area trails. I can never seem to make the group rides. Is there a good source for tracks that I can load in to my Garmin if I want to head out there solo?

    Why yes, yes there is.

    Here's a fun 16-miler I did on Memorial Day. It includes some of the BLT trails BRG mentions, with the same starting point (kiosk), and adds in upper Noble Canyon trail (paved road back to BLT).

    Here's one that includes all the trails BRG listed (I think) but from a different starting point - Penny Pines TH - and only does Chico+Gatos once. Note that I recorded this track before the Los Gatos reroute, so you may find yourself "off track" a little if you use this while on that trail. Impossible to get lost, though, and it eventually reconnects to the original.

    Both of these loop the meadow counter-clockwise but you get the idea.

    You'll need a Forest Service Adventure Pass to park.

    No trip to BLT is complete without a stop at Alpine Beer Co. on the way back. Even if you don't drink beer (theirs is fantastic BTW), the food is really good.

    Post up before you get here. I'm sure you'll get a few offers to guide. That should be a great time to ride up there, assuming the place isn't on fire.

    Damn I just remembered I posted that, and lo and behold there's a fire burning up near BLT. Evacuations, and closure of Sunrise Highway have been ordered.

    I highly recommend hollenbeck canyon. Intense climbs at some points but a beautiful view and awesome singletrack.

    Both of these rides look pretty sweet. I don't have a Garmin...are either of these maps available as a PDF? Any suggestions for a bike rental? Preferably FS, but a HT will suffice.

    FWIW, I'll be in town from January 16-20. I'd like to hit the trail on a weekday when it's less busy...thinking Jan. 16th or 17th. If anyone is available to ride one of these days, beers are on me afterwards. :^)
