I'm new to the forum and to the sport. This weekend, I'm looking to buy a entry-level MTB and I'm planning to hit Otay Lakes once or twice a week.
That said, are there any bikers who rides in Otay Lakes once or twice a week? How's the trails? Are there a lot of ups and downs? Rocky or mostly dirt?
I'm most probably get a HT Trek 4500. I also checked moutainbikebill's site - awesome!
Lastly, is this trail (location) good for novice or intermediate? Thanks in advance!
Otay Lakes is perfect for newbies, mostly singletrack along the lakes and nearby, check out the benefit ride we are having next Saturday: http://forums.mtbr.com/showthread.php?t=697422
I wasn't poking fun at you, it is the fact that Otay could possibly be the flatest trail in SD. You'll do just fine, the place is fun, yea Baja I said it.

Really? That would be sweet! Perhaps I can tag along. When you see a skinny Asian guy just yell Teemberland lol!
I'll pickup my bike @ 8am @ Kearny Trek then go home to Eastlake and ride in Otay. BTW, I've been looking at your map archive that you gave me I hope you don't mind. You have some variations in Otay Lakes it looks like.
That's ok, yes there are several options, I gave you the shorter and "classic" Otay Lakes but you can very easy add more miles.
We are going to be stopping a lot to mark the trail but hope to at least say hi.
BTW looks like the parking lot is closed on Fridays so we might park by the end of Wueste Rd after the main entrance, just an FYI

It is pretty easy unless you start adding rochouse, steel bridge or even otay mountain. I was just curious if there were any group rides anymore.
