    OT: Beach Camping

    what up SoCalers,

I was wondering, what are some beaches in San Diego where I can pitch a tent and camp at?
I've been gettin' the itch to hang out at the beaches.

    thanks for any info!!

Try these. Not sure what you are looking for but it is a start.

    So. Carlsbad State Beach http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=660
    San Elijo State Beach http://www.parks.ca.gov/default.asp?page_id=662

    Campland on the Bay http://www.campland.com/
Note that Campland is not on the beach but in Mission Bay.

Hope it helps a bit. Good luck.

And if you're ready May 1st, you can make reservations for December.....

They used to have an area at San Elijo for 'bike campers' to pitch a tent on for an overnight stay, but I'd call to see if they still have that area set aside. Other than that you have to make reservations seven months ahead of time and even then, the premium beach campgrounds like San Elijo are almost impossible to get a spot (especially since they went site specific on the reservations).

If you can pitch your tent on asphalt, San Onofre is the least difficult campground to get into on short notice.

The days of throwing your gear in the car and heading down to the beach and just finding a place to camp on the spur of the moment are distant memories in SoCal.

Now, you have to plan your spontaneity almost a year in advance.....

There's lots of hike/bike sites along the coast. I biked to and stayed at a park in San Clemente in August. If you bike in instead of driving there is always a spot open.
