New Bike Shop in Conejo Valley!
Hey everyone, I hope you don't mind a little shameless advertising. I just wanted to get the word out that we are opening a new bike shop in Agoura Hills!
It's a unique type of shop that is part destination, part retail. We are a full sales and service shop with a full scale espresso/coffee bar. Plenty of seating inside and out. Big screen TV's to watch race footage and live events. And lots more cool stuff to come!
Follow us on facebook at JRA Bikes & Brew to see what brands we're carrying, demo dates, and when our upcoming Grand Opening date will be. Hope to see you there!
Thanks, Vince

Looking forward to the grand opening! What mountain bike brands will you be carrying?
-
Sounds great, can't wait to check it out!

Just don't carry Specialized . . .
And maybe think about sponsoring the SoCal forum or something . . . people might get a little grumpy about commercial posting.
Edit: Should have added that I'm excited about the shop. I regularly ride out that way and having some good coffee for the trip home would be great.
You guys have suspension services planned?

Alcohol may lead nowhere, but it sure is the scenic route!

Thanks! Our mountain bike brands are Jamis, Niner, Turner, and Independent Fabrications. We'll have demo bikes in the shop and will be hosting demo days with the manufacturers.

Stumptown Roasters! They're out of Oregon and are fantastic!

Nope. No Specialized. Curious, I'd like to hear why you say that. PM me if you'd rather not say it here.
Good idea on the forum sponsorship. I'll look into it.
We in fact do have a suspension service program. Our primary mechanic has years of experience overhauling, upgrading, and fine tuning suspension.
-
Congrats, Vince! I heard about this several months ago and have been anxiously awaiting an official announcement. Sounds like a terrific business model. I look forward to the grand opening.

Sweet! Will make a nice compliment to my El Pollo Loco stops.

Congrats. A new bike shop ANYWHERE is a good thing.

Very cool, what kind of tuning do you offer?

He hasn't responded, because the Big S has already hauled his ass into court.
Can't wait to see the new shop! I may support an LBS yet.
-
My main gripe about specialized shops is that they tend to be VERY specialized.
-
My LBS carries Spesh, Trek, and now Kona. I ride a bike for how the bike performs, not for political B/S or lack there of. I've owned more Spesh's than any other bike brand and while I am not currently riding one, I will always consider them in my future choices.
-
We'll be posting full details once we're up and running. We've been releasing most of the information on our Facebook page since it's easier to manage the flow of info.
-
Thanks, Jim! Make sure you grab me at the grand opening. It's been a while since I've seen ya.

Yes, right behind the iHop. Most people in the area know there was a bike shop there up until last year. We liked the location because of the easy access to so many road and MTB routes. We expanded the space considerably and are almost done with a full remodel. You're welcome to drop by and say hi while we're working on it. Or keep up with the progress on our facebook page: facebook.com/JRABikesAndBrew

Cool I see you're at Kanan Rd! I usually take Kanan Rd to T3 tunnel (backbone) or when I ride Point Magu State park ( I like parking @ the beach side) I'm looking forward to Coffee!!!

After talking to folks in the industry and hearing about Speshys business practices, and lawsuits, I will never own one of their bikes. Sorry, they don't deserve my money.

Well I look forward to meeting you, charlesinoc! You'll be happy to know our coffee bar will open at 7am. You can also grab a spare inner tube or some trail food if you're running low. And try this on for size: our service department will open at 7am on Saturdays and Sundays for those unexpected last minute repairs.

Cool that you guys aren't carrying the same inventory that Mike's and NP bike shop are.
Totally cool you are going to have Niner.
Awesomely cool you guys are next to LadyFace. Their food is really good and they carry some great brew there (although I've got to say I'm not a fan of their shop brew- but they have great taste in imports).
Too bad Tifa's moved. That would have been a great magnet for the wives.
-
michaelscott, thanks for noticing the difference in our brand offerings. We truly tried our best to focus on brands that offer great performance and value. And we certainly didn't want to be "just another bike shop". If we start to see a trend with customer requests for a certain brand or product, we'll give it a try and see how it goes. We expect our inventory to grow as our customer base grows.
I hope the spouses who don't ride also give our cafe a shot. Although we are a bike shop, the layout and decor of the cafe is intended to appeal to a broader audience. Plenty of seating inside and out. A great selection of coffee, tea, smoothies, and baked goods.

It will be nice to have a bike shop right off the freeway going to and from Backbone. Can't wait to check it out!
-
Good brands, best of luck...I'll be sure and stop by and drop a couple bucks. Keep us posted on a grand opening.
-
I would just call it Bikes & Brews. It's short, sweet and catchy. It's everything a name should be.
-
I see y'all open 1 week from Saturday? Bummer . . . I'll be outta town.
Alcohol may lead nowhere, but it sure is the scenic route!
-
Sorry you're going to miss the big day- Saturday May 25th. We are raffling off a bunch of really cool stuff: glasses, helmets, cycling clothes...and the grand prizes are a Garmin Edge 500 bundle, a pair of Vittoria EVO Hora shoes, a HR monitor, and a few tickets to Interbike! The raffle will start at 10am and run throughout the day.
I hope to see a bunch of you there!
-
I'm looking forward to it. The conejo valley is very under-caffeinated right now and could definitely use some quality beans.
-
-
What are your hours on Saturday? And, how does the raffle work? Do we have to stick around all day to win? Or can we buy and fly? Are you guys right there by Ladyface Brewery?

We are open on Saturday from 7 AM until 5 PM. NeilPryde Bikes will have their demo fleet available starting around 9:30-10 am. To be entered into the raffle you just have to come in and check out the shop. We have a short scavenger hunt that, when completed, automatically enters you in the drawing. Don't worry, it'll only take 5-10 min to complete.
We will raffle stuff off every 30 minutes starting at 10am and probably go all day until closing. Winners do not need to be present to win.
We are right behind the iHop in the same center as Ladyface Alehouse.
-
Don't forget to come by JRA Bikes & Brew tomorrow! We are hosting our grand opening and would love to see you there. The coffee shop opens at 7am. At around 10-11 we will start our raffle that will go on all day. We have a lot of great prizes! NeilPryde will have their demo fleet for test rides. Jamis and Niner reps will also be present to answer any questions. And don't forget our Memorial Day weekend sale- 10% off bikes, parts and accessories!
-
You did mean 20% off, right?
-
THANKS FOR CATCHING THAT, SHAWN!
That was supposed to read 20% off!
-
Sitting in the shop right now. Great location, familiar faces, great products and customer service. My faith in an LBS has been restored. But, this is much more then an LBS!
-
We are hosting a Niner demo day this Sunday June 2nd from 8-3 at Malibu Creek State Park. The Niner van will have the Air 9 RDO in all sizes, Jet 9 RDO in all sizes, Rip 9 RDO in all sizes and the new Rip alloy in all sizes!
Bring your pedals, shoes and helmet. And the first 10 riders get a swag bag from JRA Bikes & Brew!

Great demo event today! Thanks so much for organizing this! I got to ride a RIP 9 RDO and Jet 9 RDO - great bikes! I couldn't believe how well they both climbed - I expected it from the Jet 9, but the RIP 9 was quite amazing. Besides climbing well, it was nice and plush. Took them out for more than 2 hours, all over Malibu Creek State Park; it was great to get so much time to try out the bikes. Thanks again!

You are so welcome! I'm glad you got plenty of quality time on the bikes!

I stopped in yesterday to check the place out . . . . the shop is off to a great start. The coffee though was great! Loved the Stumptown.

+1 to this. The coffee was awesome, way better than I expected. You've got a good space for the bike shop... It felt a little empty but I think I might just be used to the cramped spaces of NP Bike shop and Mike's

Thank you! I'm glad you liked the coffee. We worked really hard to find great roasters and are always trying to improve our drinks.
As far as the open space, we are slowly increasing our inventory. We don't want to just fill the shelves with stuff. We are focusing on quality products that we believe in and perform well. We are also responding to our customers' requests.
-
If you are looking for ideas: there is absolutely no Trials scene anywhere in the Conejo Valley. It might be a risky move but if you guys want to dip a toe in there and get some staff that have expertise in it I would buy my first trials bike from you, take lessons, etc... Plenty of trials type skills translate very well into mountain bike riding.

Would love to see you guys carry (and service) Chris King as well as Hope (particularly the brakes). I'm yet to find a shop that carries Hope brake spares.

Oh man, I'm glad you included that link. I might not have known what that was.

We are an authorized Chris King dealer and can service your hubs, headset and BB!
I'll look into the Hope stuff for you.
