MTRP Deerfield area proposed for BMX/bike improvements

Wow, i's not like a group of people have been at MTRP since 2008 proposing improvements... now, actual planners are proposing this, as it will help them meet minimum requirements for park space (however that works, new structures lead to the need of new park space).

At any rate, this is fairly entertaining for anyone who may have been involved in the past in proposing that Deerfield receive a revamp for a bike park.

Staff has spent three years working on finding other
parkland within the Navajo Community. The goal is to find City owned properties so that
the City doesn’t have to pay to acquire new land. We identified school sites, city owned
sites and are interested in including a portion of Mission Trails Regional Park. The general
plan allows for park equivalencies which give other areas to look at in the City. We’re
getting a look at all our resource based parks to see whether there are areas that act like
neighborhood parks. We can put in neighborhood amenities so that the community has
more space to go to. The BMX site is one of the sites identified for enhancing so that it
would act more like a neighborhood park. We’ve identified 13 acres in the BMX area in
Mission Trails Regional Park. This 13 acres would be located in the Navajo Population
based park inventory and could receive development impact fees to make improvements.
Any improvements within MTRP would have to come before the MTRP CAC to receive
design approval. Improvement ideas include overlooks, enhancing the BMX route itself,
enhancing the trail, providing shade structures, a trail that connects to the parking lot,
    and parking lot improvements.

except for the "word" is the park's committee isn't overwhelmed with the idea. The newest proposal was brought forth bitty city planning people, to bring the local acreage up (to support the proposed housing development)

In the beginning you had park *users* that proposed such a project. The park entities were not into it.

Now you have city planning people proposing the project... park entities are not into it.

At some point someone must ask, who exactly is running the park? If users want it, the city wants it but a handful of other individuals do not want it, it must surely make people wonder who is running what.
