Mountain Lion at San Juan Trail

I rode San Juan Trail up to Blue Jay Saturday. I was on my way back down the trail when I spotted a Lion on the trail he was a good size cat, he took of as soon as he saw me. I was using my samsung helmet cam and it was runing when I came up on the lion. I was all stocked and could not wait to get home to review it on the TV. Bad news at home, the memory card had bad sectors apparently and three of my files would not play, including the one with the lion, what a bummer. That would have been awesome.
Hope I get this chance again. The encounter made me reconsider riding by my self.

    It catches you of guard

you don't really expect to run into one, and once you see the strong legs and huge paws very impressive. Its an awesome animal. Glad to see they are still aroound. The air horn is not a bad Idea but me be a bit bulky.

Really...that sucks. Wouldn't doubt we'll see more of them, though. With the extremely low rainfall this year, their prey are coming down to find food, and so the lions follow. Guess I'll think twice before riding up there by myself for now.

I encountered a lion on Bell View Trail a few months back. My first thought was what an amazing animal it was, follow quickly by "what the F*** am I doing out here alone?"

Not new at all. The reason the hot springs is closed is because of lions. It has been a very dry year. Making maple springs and the SJ hotsprings even the small lakes in Whiting dangerous territory.

There is room for it all, just ride what you like to on what you like to...that's freeriding. -rbn14

Rode Old SJ-SJ loop about 3-4 weeks ago and saw a tail of a coyote on the trail. I alerted the park rangers and they said there are a bunch of Mountain Lions up there and the trails shouldn't be ridden alone.

    Gmr

I rode Monroe truck trail Easter Sunday and made my way to the top, I turned around started to come back down and came around a corner and there stood a mountain lion . It scared the s--- out of me. I made a loud noise and it took off down the trail, I watched for a second and preceeced to follow down the trail. He darted in the bushes and I just hualed ass down to the bottom. I ride alone alot but this made me second guess when and where I ride alone.
