Mammoth Bike Park Early Bird Special April Only!

It's that time of year to get ready for Mammoth. I just called as I got the email and this price is only good for April. It went up $20 over last year but still a good price considering what a day pass costs. It is $199 for adults and $99 for those under 12. The net of it is if you go 4 days a year, you break even and then every day after is free.. Last year we got 12 days in so it was a great deal for us. Call this number and ask for the early bird bike pass only, not the other passes they will try and sell you. Based on the snow pack, they said the last wekend for skiing will most likely be Memorial so the park should open soon after. Twilight is calling my name...

    I heard June 21 - Sept. 15 when I bought my pass.

I think this is still happening too: 2013 Mammoth Kamikaze Bike Games

I was reading some websites where they suggest you pay to rent their bikes. If you are just a casual rider, do you really need to rent? T.I.A.

It depends on your situation. Definitely rent if you don't have a bike you use frequently. What I rented in town were *nice* AM bikes, all set up and ready to roll. It wasn't cheap, but worth it as I was riding with very occasional riders.

There's something about everyone in average clothes and similar (nice) equipment that makes it more group-like fun. Everyone had a good time.

If you are a casual rider, do the trail that runs from the lodge down to town at least once. Long and easy fun.

If you're renting, you'll often do MUCH better in terms of bike quality and maintenance by renting from Footloose Sports instead of from the Bike Park.
I've seen so many rentals from the park that were poorly maintained, had almost no brake pads left, and whose suspension settings weren't even close to what would work well for the renting rider.
Some of the park rentals are fine, but just check brake pads + suspension settings of the bike you rent.

I live in the OC and yes it is a long drive, especially pulling the boat up. We went up for 1 week and then for a 12 day stint and then a season ending 3 day'er. Got to ride every other day as the family was up. Some of the best riding in August as there was plenty of rain to pack things down. Our first trip this year will be the 4th of July week.
