    Lake Arrowhead

I'm heading out to Palm Springs this weekend and am thinking about stopping by Lake Arrowhead on the way out. I won't have my bike, but any recommendations for things to do and see? I was thinking tubing with the wife could be fun -- is there any around? I assume Big Bear has more skiing / tubing options, but I don't think I want to drive that far out of the way

Was hoping to get up to the mountains and see some snow (even if it's man-made). Any recommendations on a place to stop on the way from LA to Palm Springs?

Good luck finding snow here in So Cal. We are having a hot, dry Winter. There may be some man made snow at Snow Summit in Big Bear, though...

Thanks for the recommendation. I think the Joshua Tree is about an hour out of the way but we enjoy hiking and my wife in into photography so it seems like it'll definitely be worth it. Any specific recommendations for hikes, etc?

Agree with other poster, Arrowhead is pretty boring. The shopping center on the lake is a tourist trap. The lake is private to there is little to no shore access.

While it is fairly warm up here in BB(mid 40s-low 50s), there is still some natural snow around and the ski areas are both about 100% open and the skiing and boarding have been great. The lake is open to the public and there are lots of things to do up here and plenty of the hiking trails are open, alot of roads are even open for riding.

I spent a couple nights at Arrowhead about 10 years ago, and was struck by the lack of public access. Big Bear would seem to be a better bet, as there is at least some public land around the lake.

The Wonderland of Rocks/Barker Dam area is really cool, especially if you don't mind getting off-trail a bit and doing some rock scrambling. It's a unique, beautiful spot. Have fun!
