JPL parking lot -> Arroyo Seco trail -> Switzer Falls
Anyone started from the JPL parking lot going thru Arroyo Seco trail and ending up in Switzer Falls recently? Our group wants to try something different from the usual Brown Mountain climb and down El Prieto route. Anyone know what the trail conditions are like these days? TIA.
I rode down it a few weeks ago. It's fine, as long as you don't mind poison oak. There are sections where you have no choice but to ride through the stuff, brushing your legs.
There's a bridge out on the lower section before the Gould Mesa campground, so you'll be doing an awkward creek crossing there.
The riverbed section above the dam and before Oakwilde has changed a bit... lots of rocks moved around. You can still find your way through it pretty easy though, and probably easier on the way up than the way down.
There are a few slides but they've already been ridden over and flattened out, just above Oakwilde. There will likely be some hikes climbing the Gabrielino trail (the route you're talking about),
Once you get past the last creek crossing by the waterfall (going up), it's all good.
Send me a PM when you're gonna do it, I might join you. I love that trail.
I haven't rode it in some months but I've grown to enjoy riding up to Switzers and back. You get to see more than the usual 'eyes glued to the exposed narrow singletrack in front of you' that your used to when you just go downhill.
