I would like to volunteer to.....

If anyone knows who is the group to contact in regards to this please post or PM me directly.

    Pic update 4-13-10

I took my puppies out for a walk at JPL today. Still close at the Y but good news is the trail has been graded but it looks like the heavy rain on Sunday created more problems. I could not tell how much damage the last storm did but he we go

The first 3 pic was taken on 3/11/10 it was not a pretty sight

By the way, I called and left the message to about volunteering but no call back yet. Don't know when it would be open back up but so far so good. I'd say if it's dry the next few days we may have good news but per the phone call to the national forest they are not saying anything. Hope this help those who's been waiting. I notice more activity than last time more hikers, runners and at least 10 bikes rode pass me. They don't look like they are going to Brown though. I don't think that the lower Arroyo trail would be open but the fireroad looks very promising, forget El Prieto it'd be a while

Thanks for the pics Mimi! I went there a few weeks ago with my bike too but just looking at the total devastation from the fire makes you think how much we take for granted the trails we usually go to and realize how we miss it now that its out of order. I hope by the end of the year it'll open again.

I don't know if they have finished grating the fireroad all the way to the saddle or not it looks like they may have done it already. That would be a good news. Lower trail didn't look so good as the water level probably rise to the trail it may required a whole lot more clean up.

I went to Chantry Flat yesterday, rode upper winter creek the trial is in an excellent shape.
I do agree if we can organize volunteer to help clean up Brown Mt fireroad it will be done much sooner.

If you as heart broken as I am that El P is closed then come to the MWBA Pancake breakfast and get involved. This was a regular ride for PMBC and many of you know what I'm talking about. THIS SUNDAY! April 25th is the breakfast at the Cobb Estate at the top of Lake and Loma Alta. This is where you enter the Lower Sam Merrill. There are lots of prizes to win including 3 complete bikes. go to mwba.org or pmbc.org for more info.

Rode El Prieto today. Probably illegal but I couldn't help myself. Brown Mt. fire road is eroded wonderfully - almost singletrack in sections. The fire road from the saddle down to El Prieto is washed out in many places. We had to dismount and climb over the gullies. El Prieto has been roto-rooted by the winter rains. I didn't even recognize the streambed. But someone has done a lovely grooming job on the trail. I thanked each and every one of you as I rolled happily down!

How's is the fireroad though? I thought that they bulldozed the fireroad already. May be that's why you are using different user name eh? Gotcha, thanks for the report.

Don't worry your secret is safe, there's another guy had himself on youtube when it was closed too.

The "forest closed" sign is still up and many people are walking past it.

The fire road has been bulldozed about halfway up. Then it's all eroded and fun to ride.

I hope you and everyone else gets shafted for being in a closed area. Mountain Bikers already have a bad name and I hope your selfishness doesn't screw things up for the rest of us. Try and think of the big picture here and not just having a little fun for yourself.

Still closed. I signed up for clean up volunteer but no mail or no call back. I think we should arrange it ourselves. If you want things to get done sooner, the way it's going now I don't know if it's even possible it would be open this year. It's still the same trail as it was a month ago.

If enough of us pitch in I think it'd only take 2-3 days to get it done. I can be there on Sat morning if we can arrange a group of people to help out.

    from the corba web site

ANF Opens Campgrounds, But Few Trails
The Angeles National Forest issued a revised Closure order this week, just in time for Memorial Day weekend. While very little has been opened, campgrounds such as Horse Flats, Chilao and Millard are now open for camping.

But donít get too excited. None of the trails around Millard (Sunset Ridge, Dawn Mine, El Prieto) are open. Work on the restoration of Sunset Ridge continues, and El Prieto has had extensive restoration work done, though according to FS officials neither are ready or safe enough for general use. Fire roads in the area are also extensively damaged.

In the Chilao area, sections of the Silver Mocassin trail are unburned and will probably be open, but the traditional figure-eight loop we all love is not possible, as the Vetter Trail and other sections of the Silver Mocassin and Hillyer trail are impassable and most likely in the closed area.

I've been riding Brown and El P since before La Vina was developed. True that La Vina tried to block a small part of the Altadena Crest Trial and keeping it open is good.
But take a look below Brown and El P. Hahamonga Park has trails that follow the Arroyo Seco all the way down to South Pas. Those are the "Gateway" trails that we need to have open so you can take your kids on local trails that are not steep. FYI, the City of Pasadena has a real need for trails and bike paths and should stop wasting time and money on plans that have bike routes along busy streets impeded with street car parking.

regarding the lasers, I just got curious and started looking around the internet and found this. Now I don't know if this is the real reason, but its a good and interesting read. Its like straight outta Neal Stephenson book!

Seriously doubt that. I keep hoping but we'd be lucky if it open this year. Not to mention the bridge is down nothing over 3 tons that would rule out the dozer. I'll keep checking it looks better than the last time I was there but some way to go at the bottom.

I which they'd just put the k-rail and just let us use it already.

    Cheers,
