I took my puppies out for a walk at JPL today. Still close at the Y but good news is the trail has been graded but it looks like the heavy rain on Sunday created more problems. I could not tell how much damage the last storm did but he we go
The first 3 pic was taken on 3/11/10 it was not a pretty sight
The next set of pic was taken today
About 5' drop no sholder
At this point my puppy ran up the trail so I went after her
By the way, I called and left the message to about volunteering but no call back yet. Don't know when it would be open back up but so far so good. I'd say if it's dry the next few days we may have good news but per the phone call to the national forest they are not saying anything. Hope this help those who's been waiting. I notice more activity than last time more hikers, runners and at least 10 bikes rode pass me. They don't look like they are going to Brown though. I don't think that the lower Arroyo trail would be open but the fireroad looks very promising, forget El Prieto it'd be a while
Thanks for the pics Mimi! I went there a few weeks ago with my bike too but just looking at the total devastation from the fire makes you think how much we take for granted the trails we usually go to and realize how we miss it now that its out of order. I hope by the end of the year it'll open again.
I don't know if they have finished grating the fireroad all the way to the saddle or not it looks like they may have done it already. That would be a good news. Lower trail didn't look so good as the water level probably rise to the trail it may required a whole lot more clean up.
I went to Chantry Flat yesterday, rode upper winter creek the trial is in an excellent shape.
I do agree if we can organize volunteer to help clean up Brown Mt fireroad it will be done much sooner.

Rode El Prieto today. Probably illegal but I couldn't help myself. Brown Mt. fire road is eroded wonderfully - almost singletrack in sections. The fire road from the saddle down to El Prieto is washed out in many places. We had to dismount and climb over the gullies. El Prieto has been roto-rooted by the winter rains. I didn't even recognize the streambed. But someone has done a lovely grooming job on the trail. I thanked each and every one of you as I rolled happily down!
