I am planning a trail work day along with "Stewards of the Sequoia". Because of the present condition of the Dutch Flat trail it is likely the BLM will want to close it in the near future. He said now is the time for us to do some work so the BLM doesn't target it for closure.
Dutch Flat is one of the most utilized mtb trails in the Southern Sierras...especially by locals. For those that do not know it...its is an amazing downhill from 4500ft to 2500ft ending in Keysville. It a true caliper burner with tech section thrown in and amazing views of Lake Isabella.
It is up for debate the degree of maintenance that is required. I think at the very least it needs water bars to keep ruts from getting bigger/worse. My feelings are mixed when it comes to possible re-routes. Winter is a great time to do trail work so lets get this on the calender.
Anyhow, dates will be set for some time in mid to late January.
This is going to be a big project so we need as many folks as we can get. Also please pass this info along to everyone that you know that rides in the S. Sierras and hopefully we can get a good group together to make easy work of this needed project.
