Cuyamaca Rancho State Park Mountain Bike Benefit Ride

I'm new to San Diego and haven't ridden in the Cuyamaca area yet. I've signed up for this benefit ride and was curious if anyone knew the course. Is it rolling hills or uphill-all-the-way-to-the-end?

    Welcome to San Diego

You've found one of the premier events in San Diego for mountain bikers! http://www.active.com/cycling/descan...e-2010#Summary

The ride is all downhill except for the uphill parts. Actually it's an "intermediate" level ride with a few extended climbs. It's been done on single speeds and unicycles and there aren't any serious, "get on the nose of the saddle" type climbs, except for one brief section that is readily walked.

It's starting in a new location this year, which puts one of extended, shadeless climbs later in the ride so I expect it too be a bit tougher than in the past. The plus side is the Middle Peak bonus card climb comes up early. Overall its a great ride and a good place to meet the local mountain biking community.

To find out even more about our trails, join the San Diego Mountain Biking Association: SDMBA.com

The beer sponsors alone make membership worthwhile!

Kewl. Thanks for the report and fear not. I joined SDMBA the day after my first group ride with them at Cal Coast

I had a great ride there yesterday, but who's idea was having it on Sunday?
We had hoped to be done with it all by noon, and be able to make it to
the sports bar to watch the game.
We had bought an extra $20 worth of raffle tickets and hadto give them
    away when we left.
Kinda' sucked if you ask me.
Addicted to the dirt......with no hope for recovery.

Very poor planning this year. No notices on the park website, no links, no postings. They really need to get the word out better. I totally forgot about it. They always drag the raffle out too long.

    What Game?

You would have rather been watching TV?

I thought it was a great event and definitely appreciated the effort by the volunteers and the donations of the sponsors. Of course, my raffle tickets were called three times, and I did win an apple pie along with a gift certificate to Itsa Bike Shop and a Lezyne Bike Tool, so I might have a different perspective on the day.

If you join SDMBA, you will get lots of notifications for this event and others.

    Looking forward to next year!
