The Crutch Free Tour de Noble

1 Crazy Kiwi in SoCal Again....

Dial up peeps, this may well clog your system, loads of pictures.....

Worked last week in Ventura, Ca. So before heading to Spain, I ensured I went down to San Diego and rode with the peeps down yonder… Cruised down to San Diego on Friday, stopped in at the TLD headquarters, always as to be done.

Had a great meal of Thai out on the Friday evening…

Aqua and I got to the Noble Canyon Trail Head at 8 in the AM, man alive it was crisp, I think around 5 deg C in the modern world temperatures. It warmed up once the sun came up and over the ranges…

Others started turning up at around 8.45 in the AM… We got quite a good number, around 10 peeps and more were meeting us at the top… Some didn’t wish to punish their bodies to a tour de Noble this early on in the season…. And here is me the fool doing it on a SS… But I relished the challenge…

Met some new people which is always cool, some fast weight weenie XC dudes, “dam goater’s” a dude whom is working in Ca on assignment from Oregon joined us as well, Shannon was a good guy… He enjoyed the totally different terrain.

Heckler-Mark, Super T joined as well.

The first half of the ride lets say involves some 5000 feet of climbing, that was a little daunting to say the least, have done it on the Helius FR, but not on a SS… I was running a 32t F and 21t R on the Jones, it was going to be good on the flats. Aqua was running a 22t on the rear…. In the end, I would have far preferred to be running a 22t on the rear, it is steep, but the steepness is not so much the pain, it is the tech needed to navigate your way through the various rocks etc…

We arrived up top at around 12.17 in the PM, to be met with cold drinks, chocolate, grapes etc, this was a great little surprise…

We headed off with some extra riders and also lost some riders.

We then did some loops and single track up on top of Noble I guess is the best way to explain it. Really enjoyed some of the single track up there, was a nice cruise, the weather was good and we had loads of laughs and many Zen moments…. See pictures below….

I was so looking forward to the downhill section, I really enjoy the change in flora and fauna and the terrain etc…. As expected, had a blast…. We got back to the car park at around 6.30 in the PM, was a long day, but a truly enjoyable one…

I really enjoyed riding this on the SS, was a huge challenge, the enjoyment was there in copious amounts… It is a refreshing change having to really think on the technical descent’s…..
So without getting the exact readings, we rode a minimum of 40 miles, climbed at the 5000 feet to the top, with a number of climbs added, but not the long extended climbs where you are pleading with yourself that “pain is your friend”

Will let the many pictures tell the rest of the story….

    A whole lotta Ti

    Was rather dam chilly.....

A minor fall on the first real rock garden.... 15 mins into the ride...

The group, a little chit chat before the real climbing begins....

Aqua got a flatty on the climb

Anyone know this guy, sheesh, is this SoCal riding clothing or lack of ????

    Grinding up....

Heckler-Mark with some pace on, like this photo...

At the top carpark..... Yeah ha

    Who that ???

    At the lake...

    Couple of very cool chicks...........

Aqua on one of the many logs..

The girls climbing up a vista....

A few of the Zen moments of the ride.....

Like this shot, this area was very peaceful and cool

    General riding shots...

    Monkey Butt doing it

Super T was rocking it today.....

Shannon showing us some Oregon skills....

Just like this picture for some reason....

Aqua doing it on the Jones...

Huckler-Mark and others ripping the Devils Staircase

A huge thank you to all the people I rode with, your company, laughs & hospitality is great and is much appreciated, thank you...

Aqua doing it, this looks far easier than it is, trust me...

Almost back, got cold out of the sun, was cool on the shady side but the other mountain faces were still in light...

Aqua, again the photos do this no justice

I can't tell you Whafe how bummed I am we missed eachother.

I had a good (not great) time riding alone down Noble trying to find you guys. I was hoping you didn't head on over to BLT, but it is a Zen time there, no doubt.

Next time brother! I'm glad you enjoyed the ride and the company, nice shots too! Mark stylin' air, nice!

Good times, ya wild Kiwi! I swear I'm gonna put together a pocket translator guide for us yanks who ride with you. Some of your expressions and slang are too funny.

Great to see you guys had a great ride. You have not ridden until you've had an out of shape beer gut sporting no talent on the ride with you. That is zen, my friends.

And Aqua can't keep himself from trying to offend the animal rights pansies, can he?

Hey Wafe, I missed you by a couple of days. I ended up riding Noble today. Man was that fun. Off to LA next, then back to flat Florida.
