CCCMB - Fall 2010 Work Day, Sept. 11, help build new trail

    Hello Campers,

I know, I know, you think summer vacation is almost over since Labor Day is upon us. We want you to know that the fun continues! :-)

    What:
We have new trail to build in Montaņa De Oro State Park after two long years in the planning and surveying stages. We would like to get this build this winter, let the rains season it, and open it in the early spring of 2011. We have numerous Regional Crew Work days planned through the coming months.

    Where:
Meet at the entrance to Horse Camp just past the park entrance on Pecho Valley Road. Do not drive down into Horse Camp please. We will help get everyone parked.

    When:
    Saturday, September 11, 2010, 9:00 am. to 12:00 pm

    Details:
This is known as North Hazard Peak Trail, and continues the trail that comes up from the ocean side to Hazard Peak. This one goes off the back side, will connect to Old Manzanita and eventually back to the bench just below the current intersection of East Boundary and Old Ridge Trail. It had hiking boot, deer, horse, and bike tracks on it today, let's get it built! Pictures below.

Your help is deeply appreciated, you know we love ya!

Thanks to everyone who came out and contributed to the building of the new North Hazard Peak trail last Saturday. We had 30 very enthusiastic volunteers, of which nine were first time CCCMB volunteers. Thank you!

We were able to get about 900 feet of trail widened and brushed, the tread still needs some finish work in places, but we have four more work days coming in the next three months. We hope you can join us here at Montaņa de Oro or other CCCMB work days in the future. Check the calendar on the www.cccmb.org website for more info.

I want to give extra thanks to some people, to point out the wonderful cooperation we have here in San Luis Obispo county from all trail lovers.

Kathy L with SLOPOST would rather ride a horse than a mountain bike, and is a tremendous champion of trails in this area.
Kathy R is our regional crew leader in Santa Margarita Lake, and is an Atascadero Horseman's Club member as well, who prefers horse power.
John K is a Coast Mounted Assistance member who rides horses and mountain bikes.

The Black Hill Gang is a group of guys out of Morro Bay who love to hike the trails. They are responsible for all the initial brushing and clearing of the North Hazard Peak trail, and their tremendous amount of work for the CA State Parks has made the work we do as CCCMB volunteers much, much easier. These guys are out in MdO almost every week on one trail or another. They have also cleared the East Boundary reroute that we will be working on after this trail is built.

Thanks everyone for your hard work and love of San Luis Obispo trails.
