    Cambria/Paso Robles

Headed down to do some wine tasting in Paso Robles, staying Cambria, hoping to get a ride in Saturday morning. Anyone know any good trails? Thanx

I don't know about Paso, but if you are willing to drive. Check out Morro Bay at Montana de Oro State Park. Or you can check out Poly Canyon in San Luis. They are both listed in Geoladders.com

Limited on time so trying to find a closer trail, but if push comes to shove and there are no other trails, might end up waking up that much earlier to get out there, thanx

    Lewke,
I would call Cambria Bikes and ask them about local trails. You should be able to buy local trail maps there, too.

For a short ride that is relatively close to Paso Robles, head to Cerro Alto. Head south on the 101 toward Atascadero. Transition onto Route 41 west toward Morro Bay. In approximately seven miles, turn left into Cerro Alto campground:
    General Info: http://www.parksman.com/cerro.html
    Trail Map: http://www.parksman.com/MountainBike.html

Drive to the back of the campground and park. Start riding up the Bridge trail, and at the first junction, stay straight and take AT&T trail up to West Cuesta Ridge Road. Check out the view. Head back down AT&T trail, climbing a little bit after the junction with Bridge trail, and then more downhill toward Canyon trail. Finish off by taking Canyon trail back to the campground. Short but fun ride. Spectacular view from the top, if it's clear.

As for wine tasting, don't miss the following wineries, all west of the 101:

    Turley Wine Cellars
    L'Aventure
    Linne Calodo
    Lone Madrone
    Tolo Cellars
    Halter Ranch Vineyard
    Tablas Creek Vineyard
    Adelaida Cellars

For a nice dinner, head to McPhee's Grill in Templeton. Just a 10 minute drive from Paso.

    Have a nice trip!

If he pulls cerro alto his day is done in 2 hours, best hit E-W ranch in town for an EZ and avoid the car! Not much public land there unless you know a hearst mogul, Mobay south is best

Any rides on the north/west side of Morro Bay, want to limit driving to 1/2 hour, will be staying in Cambria?

In cayucos you can ride behind town and around whale rock resevoir only on weekends, still technically off limits but they are going to open it up access off 13 street. Or head up and do Santa Rita Creek road (yawn) off old creek road. Best just drop down to Morro bay and ride the state park there its mtb legal and has a few hours of singletrack if you do it all and don't mind rollercoaster type riding UP DOWN.... leg burn/smile

So what's the problem with Montana de Oro? There are 2 highways out to the coast from 101. One runs runs to Cambria, and the other goes to Morro Bay. Both pass a bunch of wineries. I guess if the specific wineries you want to visit are all off the Cambria to 101 highway I see the problem, but otherwise...

Nothings wrong with Montana de Oro, just with a big group, not everyone rides, but everyone goes wine tasting. So gotta be back at a certain time. Thanks for all the suggestions.

Gotcha. Now I get the picture. So trying to sway things your way with that group dynamic, maybe they'd like to hit Edna Valley while you hit Poly Canyon in SLO

Have fun. It's a beautiful area, and there is more to see and do than one weekend will cover.

Beautiful Scenery! I don't recall encountering heavy traffic along highway 1 from Cambria to the San Luis Obispo Airport. I used to commute almost daily a few years ago!
