Any trails in Sylmar, Veterans Park Area. (Nothern SFV)

I've seen a few youtube videos from the Sylmar area, anyone know what trails are around Veterans Park?

It's pretty much just the fire road (May Canyon Truck Trail) out the back of the park. It'll connect up with some good stuff, but that "trail" is asphalt for a long time and will eat your rubber like crazy.

Better to start behind the hospital (Wilson Canyon Truck Trail) and pedal up to the saddle (Santa Clarita Truck Trail). From there you have Los Pinetos (really, really fun decent, and a ***** to climb back up, dumps into Placerita Canyon), Viper (fun, loose at times, and steep ridge trail, ends at the Newhall park and ride) or the fire road that you can ride either back to the top of Viper, or down to the bottom of Viper (Newhall p&r), which has a few little single track off-shoots.

If you climb Wilson to the saddle, there's a fun technical descent which runs down a ridge behind the hospital. It's often loose and/or rutted, but it's fun. There's also a crazy steep ridge trail closer to May Canyon behind Veteran's, but I've never done it. Looks sketchy as hell.

Further east, there's the continuation of the SC Truck Trail, but I've never been over there.

    Happy hunting!

Santa Clara Divide Truck Trail goes from the Park and Ride east to Mt. Gleason, an out-and-back of 60+ miles. It's all road, and generally pretty good dirt or paved road, but there's not much in the way of dependable water supplies along the way. Camp 9, North Fork Saddle, and Messenger Flats are the best water bets. Dropping off the ridge at Indian Creek won't help, as the campground near the bottom (Soledad) is closed and the water is shut off. Not much fun from a technical standpoint, but the views are nice.

I'd be interested in this too. Any sizeable sections of asphalt climbing?
