Same owner of Bear Mountain Resorts. Pat Follet of Team Big Bear fame, has been spearheading the project, he's been to Mammoth to check out their operations, there is talk of northshore style bridges and stunts, trails for all disciplines, ziplines, climbing wall, food service, etc. They want to make it truly world class and have a variety for every level of rider, as well as amenities for non riders.
As far as the "rumor" is concerned, I've been hearing this from more and more people up here, so I really believe its going to happen, in which capacity this season, who knows, but in a few years, I think it will be everything we can hope for here in So.Cal

Reading these posts on rumors of a new MTB park makes me excited as well. I've been in the IE coming up on 2 years. I am a Colorado Transplant and I miss the bike parks like no ones business. My fingers are crossed it happens.

I've never been to Snow Summit. I am hoping to go within the next few weeks. The website says it will be opening for weekends on 5/18/12.

Keep us posted Jeff as it is a long drive to Mammoth. Sure would be nice to have a true bike park here in our own backyard.

Was there on Sunday, It was nice to see all the bikes out there. Trail selection is still somewhat limited but I am happy to see they were more tolerant to "Big Bikes". I talked to Pat at the end of last year's season and he mentioned that they were being more "lenient" with the rules. This past weekend they didn't even flinch with our 40+ pounder DH machines. Hopefully it lasts. It would be nice to have a full blown bike park in BB, I remember the days when Summit had a real park and it would be awesome to have it in our backyard again.

Most of the stuff is more XC/All-Mountain in nature. If you take the lifts up to the top of Snow Summit, there is not a lot of climbing. If you want to do loops around Snow Summit or you want to do some of the trails on the other side of the lake then there will be climbing involved. It really just depends on what you want.

There are a few Downhill trails if you know where to look, but most of the fun trails are flowy singletracks. A few of these can get really loose, but there are no huge drops, etc. that you would see at a place like Mammoth.

I run 2.35 Hans Dampfs on the front of both my bikes - 26 and 29 full susp. I have a 2.1 Ground Control on the back of my 29er and a 2.2 Rubber Queen on the back of my 26er. You could certainly get by with a lot less tire if you wanted to.

Now if we can just add some nice DH runs, this could become a destination location for all bikers. It would be great not to have to drive to Mammoth all the time although I do love it up there.

That youtube video mentioned multi-use so I doubt there will be any I'M Totally DH'in going on, but it may be good for super D or XC races.

I keep hearing the rumors and hope they come true.. The off property trails are still fun but hopefully they bring the inbounds riding back.

    Don't look down here...

Yes, it is definately going to happen. Im sure it will be a work in progress for the first year. There will also be zip lines and a climbing wall as well. The idea to make SS family friendly.
