    Angeles National Forest Closed

Just rode El Prieto this morning and then decided to check the forest's status
CLOSED - At least I got to enjoy a nice morning ride first.

Angeles National Forest Announces Emergency Closure

    ARCADIA, CA October 22, 2007

ARCADIA, Calif. As a result of extreme fire activity, and to protect public health and safety, Angeles National Forest officials are implementing a forest closure, effective October 23, 2007. The closure will last until the extreme conditions subside.

Individuals or organizations holding special use permits for sanctioned activities within the Forest are exempt from this order.

While the closure is in effect, going into or being upon National Forest System lands, roads, or trails within the Angeles National Forest is not allowed. The closure will affect the use of all national forest recreational facilities, roads and hiking trails. Violators are subject to fines and/or imprisonment.

County roads and state highways, such as the Angeles Crest Highway (Hwy 2), will remain open to through traffic. However, drivers are urged to use extreme caution and to be aware of fire activity in the area.

For further information about the closure or fires currently burning on the Angeles, contact the Fire Information Center at 626-821-6700.

So does this mean access to Brown Mt./ El Prieto is off limits until further notice?

I feel for you, not sure I would have enjoyed my ride up and down El Prieto more if I'd know I couldn't do it again tomorrow or the next day but it will mess up my morning routine.

Guess I'll just focus on cross practice down at the Hahamonga Watershed until the conditions improve.
