12 Hours Of SoCal "Temecula #2" race update

    Hello racers,
Hope all is well and your race season is going well! We here at the "12 Hours of SoCal - Temecula " are busy getting the june 16th race all setup and ready for you. The new course should be posted asap, either on Geoladders or on our www.12hrsoftemecula.com website. The course for June 16th will be the same as the November 2006 course: http://www.geoladders.com/show_route.php?route=2072
By far this is the most fun flowing course we've put together. Super fast with no hike a bikes.
We have recently partnered up with "Operation Cast A Shadow" a non profit group of cyclist whose main goal is to introduce cycling to the many underpriveledged children here in the good old USA. I really admire the way they integrate the kids and help to teach fitness and sportsmanship! One of our Intense Cycles frames will be raffled off at the last race and the full procedes will go to "Operation Cast A Shadow".
Our friends at R & R catering will be back again to help feed the masses. As you know thier food is the best around!
The race in June is shaping up to be one of the best so far. The competition is heating up and racers are coming from far and near to accept the challenge!
I truly hope to see you there!

I realize that I'm searching for a completely subjective answer, but...

Does anyone have some ss gear recommendations for this course? I know nothing at all about the area, so I'm just looking for some insight...

    SS gearing for Temecula

I have ridden anything from 32-16 to 32-20 on this course. I think the perfect gear is 32-18 for a 26in wheeled bike. If you are a solo that is still a good gear but a little tiring on the damn climb which is the 1.5 mile initial climb. The damn climb is the only real place you will probably blow up. There are some other short steeps out there. But all makeable! If you wanna be super man fast try the 32-16. Just get ready to suffer on the climbs.

I'll be on a 29er, pretty strong on climbs (sometimes) having been riding in CO/NM for the past 12 years. Not superman fast for sure.. Looking forward to new stuff, hope that I can make it out to play and to meet more people.. Thanks for the beta..

    What you meant is....

"Is there any chance Jason found a creative way to bypass the damn climb"

That thing is a crank eater!

    J -
I just checked out the course description and you're really sending us down the hike a bike section right next to the 2nd aid station?

Sure it sounds like fun for the first few laps, but a real face plant prospect come hour 7+

    I'm just sayin'....

    Face Plant!

Yes we are going done that hike a bike section. But believe me it is not like what is was when you had to hike it. It is now a very cool little section. I have cleaned the whole thing up pretty nice. It is definatley easier than the cheesgrader on the second ridgeline. Which we wont be doing. The only hard part to this section is you have to climb a short steep 50 section to get to it. Which may be a hike a bike for some. With the grading of the fireroad I needed to add a little techy stuff. plus try to keep the mountain bike feel ALIVE! So welcome to the TERRADROME!!! Just kidding, I think you will like this little addition. Keep you on your toes!
