    Good call.
FYI I broke the news to 1x1girl that while she was sleeping, I secretly changed her gearing.

I made the change from a 32tooth up front to a 33 last Christmas Eve. She made ALL the climbs on the Main Divide that day. So I decided not to say anything and see what happened. It stayed.

Driving home from the VQ, I told her....her reaction? "I wish you would have told me earlier so when people asked about my gearing I could have said 33x20 instead of 32x20..." gee whiz!

It's not a huge difference, granted, but a difference, I personally couldn't get passed at this point.

    She is an animal.

    your results?

with my creative course detour it looks like I came in 80th out of 135 in the Counting Coup, with a time of 7:42. I'm ok with that since I psyched myself out wondering if I'd even finish. And I was on my SS. So there.

However Calvin beat me by 20 minutes, and did the extra 12 miles in the VQ. Oh yeah, on his fixed gear bike. You brute!

So post what ya got - I'm brave enough to post 80th!

    First Vision Quest

I usually just lurk on these boards; I guess I can be a little board shy. Now that I know who most of you are, it's time to participate. I met some of you at various events like the Trabuco Trail work day, the Toad Festival, and the Holy Jim ride. This was my first Vision Quest and I had a blast! It was really cool to do this with my brother who, by the way, probably talked 1x1girl 's ear off. He's a great guy, I hope she wasn't annoyed. She actually helped push me up Modjeska Peak, I didn't want to let her pass me.

Anyway, my VQ time was 8:04 hours for 38th.

    This is a nice pic:

As is the one of 1x1 Girl.
I like the pair of dogs checking out the tandem.

    The dogs

I remember that, I think the photographer positioned the dogs there for the pics.

And you didn't even look tired when you finished. I love all you single speed people! The only bikes I didn't have to clean!

    but, but...

yeah but you drug that 40 lb tank of a singlespeed through the mud (literally) and still made all the cutoff times!

Note: Padre and I hung together for most of the climbing but once it pointed downhill it was "HW in my rearview mirror".

    nice ridin'

Actually, it was probably about that heavy w/ the mud on it!
Another fun note...after descending the Motorway, I noticed that my WB .8 was acting a bit strange... I thought, "that's what happens with 5lbs of mud packed tightly against the seals..." Anyway...long story short...the fork began to get more and more stiff until by the time it came to descend Trabuco, it was almost rigid unless hitting large bumps.
It was a very jolting ride. I've worked out the kinks w/ WB, but I'm bummed that happend. Still better'n ridgid!
Jeff, you'd a brought it home fo' sho' if that $1 arrow had been there...
Come down to the OC more often, and we'll serve up some DH clinics fer ya.

Here's hoping my house sells for a ton, so I can order up a sub 27lbs SS for daddy!

Great riding with you Jeff. You really pulled it out that day.

Padre - you were one of only 58 that made it past the cut-off and finished the VQ. You should be proud. Let that sink in a minute...

1x1 girl...what can't you say about her? Totally awesome.

    Congrats to you all.

    Cheers,

By some fluke, I was the first one who crossed the line on an SS for the Coup distance.

Is that your real last name (what's posted on the finishing times)?

Way out of your league, congrats

Well, I finished the Counting Coup within the top 20 women....which translates to just about the last person to cross the finish line. I may have been dead last (or close to it), but I've never felt more alive. Hey, it was my best time yet, as I've never done this ride before.

Thanks to Andy, Hugh, Mandy and everyone that I don't know, for the encouragement along the way...you guys are the greatest. My helmet's off to those that had the courage, or insanity, to attempt this ride!
