    Who's doing a rain ride?

I think I will ride oat hill tomorrow and ride straight to the Calistoga spa hot springs when I'm finished to thaw out.

I would but don't know what's even rideable right now for me in the east bay. Don't think anything is.

I was just looking at the forecast and I was wondering if the fire roads near China Camp would be rideable. I guess if I'm gung ho tomorrow I'll let people know. The thought of having to clean up the bike afterwards is getting me lazy though.

You rode CC today? The standard loop or the back? I didn't think it'd drain that well.

Even if anything was rideable, I would only bring out my HT to have less to clean.... problem is i'm too lazy to swap out the SB8s on that bike to have any kind of traction. Gym it is!!

I started on the front from the tree trunk up to ridge fire rd. then left all the way up ridge over to the backside. The trails actually weren't too bad, and the fire roads were very rideable. It was kinda fun blasting through the puddles the clean up after kinda sucked but it was well worth it!

Oddly, it seems that the rain has missed Monterey the last couple of days. It rained all day yesterday in Santa Cruz (with more on the way today) but these storms have been just grazing points south.

The storm so far has barely even hit south Coe as well - 0.07 inches (while headquarters has 0.47 inches). Meanwhile 5+ inches at Demo (and 10 inches near Boulder Creek). Where I am in San Jose, it hasn't even been wet enough to get the ground beneath some trees.

Of course that just means the next storm might hit harder to the south!

I'll do my traditional rain ride from my house in pleasant hill to the oakland hills and beyond. no specifics in this thread though!

    I did today

I did a rain ride today......without the rain.

This was Montana De Oro this morning. SLO has gotten NOTHING this week, it's beyond dusty right now. Some rain would actually be appreciated, but until then.......

I got super depressed from lack of saddle time so forced myself to ride today. St. Joes in Los Gatos. It sucked and then it sucked again. Soupy mess...guess it will be trail building time around here for a little while.
I'm not sure how this works.

I see what you mean now. I drove over there and it was full on heavy drizzle. Sunny in San Jose but raining all day in Los Gatos!

Anywhere along the hills is going to be wet.

fogged up glasses, chainsuck so hard you're thrown from the bike, no traction on either front or rear tires, and when the rear got traction it clogged mud in the frame. Brakes rubbing.

Miserable damn ride. Hopefully tomorrow is better.

Just did a short ride at Coe out of Hunting Hollow. Barely misting at the parking lot, trails nearly dusty until the ridgetops where they were a little bit more than damp (except under some trees with fog-drip). Got one 3-4 minute rain squall, some mist, otherwise clear (but everything near the top of ridges was in the fog). Just enough moisture to get some damp-dust-clotting "mud" that eventually builds up a tiny bit - but nothing like real mud.

If this next storm doesn't hit down at Hunting Hollow area, then everyone working on the new JDT will be hacking away at hardpack yet again!

I finally got a Joplin on my Blur and I'm itching to try it out, but all the trails around here are going to be sloppy for a while. Between the rain and recovering from an infection in my teeth, I have no energy. Good thing I'm self-employed. I would get fired moving as slow as I have been all week.

Just got back from some CX action. Spinny spin. Mostly road, but I did go up Cholapocalyse Rd.

    Head wind like a mofo.
    Garmin ran out of batteries.
    Bird crapped on my sleeve

I've been in Calistoga twice over the last 6 months but for family trips. Haven't had a chance to hit OHMT yet...it's always calling me because I know exactly where the trial head is and it's so easy to get to.

BTW, what do you recommend for a first timer?

For a first timer I would say ride as far as you can then come back the same way.

has anyone ridden the headlands in the past couple of days? i'm mostly on my road bike these days, but would consider the headlands if those trails are ok.

Just went to El Sereno in LG. Kick ass tail winds turning to ass kick head winds. Coming down, the rain was going sideways and frickin' cold up there. Was laughing at those starting up the hill from the bottom because it looked like it was about to get nasty up there.

    Dirt was good!
I'm not sure how this works.

rode the Oat Hill Mine Trail this afternoon for the 1st time. thought i'd lucked out and was not going to get rained on, but it started coming down half way into the downhill back to where i parked. Hey Broncstad, i do believe that was you i was getting info from up toward where the trail gets more challenging( at least 4 me ). thanks for the info. and a tip of my helmet to you guys who can stay in the saddle all the way to Holms Place. i musta done hike-a-bike for 1/4 of that last mile. sure was fun comin down though

No. That's not a trail. I was just showing the water falls and flows across the little valley. They look much more abundant live.

Tomorrow, Marin headlands. If the wind isn't crazy, I may try and venture over to tam, otherwise I'm steering clear of canopy cover.

golden gate park is two minutes away from my front door and the trails drain pretty well in most places, since it's mostly sand and hard pack...i was able to ride in the three hour window between storms...the drizzle was picking up into rain when i took this photo:

Tour de Auburn, Fat S.O.B. Style

Woke up this morning to the sound of rain...thought, what a bad day to ride my mtb (probably wrong) but a good day for a road ride. Thanks to a brake mechanical minutes after starting, I never ventured much more than 2 miles (as the crow flies) from my house and was able to get in ~40 miles of urban assault. The goal (after the brake issue), try not to go over 20 miles an hour and try to average over 10 mph. Done (barely)!
Pretty much just plodded along taking turns here and there. Hit some pretty steep grades, saw some nice houses and some amazing views from streets I have never been on, and though I was thoroughly drenched, I had a glorious time.
