Who would be in the Sacramento-Tahoe MTB Hall of Fame?
Yeah the Bay Area has a long list of folks who are in the actual MTB H.O.F. Now, if the Sacramento-Tahoe region had it's own Hall Of Fame, who would be in it? Who made a difference with regard to MTB in the 916/530?
These are my possible nominations, although I admit I'm missing many people:
- John Finley Scott (One of the world's first real mt. bike riders)
- Greg Edwards (racer / trail builder)
- Craig Petersen (racer / trail builder)
- Dan Mackey (racer)
- Chuck Elliot (Bodfish)
- Greg Williams (Coyote/Yuba/SBTS)
- Greg Long (Dville Outfitters)
- Sherwood Gibson (Ventana)
- Sean Allan (FATRAC)
- Jim & Cathy Haagen-Smit (FATRAC)
- Greg Wells (State Parks Ranger)
- Jim Northey (GBE and before)
- Brian Joder (PCRS)
- Mark Shaw & Bill Driskill (TBF)
- David Carmazzi (80's Tahoe race promoter)
- Randy Calvin (bike shop owner - River Rat)
- John Crews (bike shop owner - Bicycles Plus)
- Scott Johnson (bike shop owner - Folsom Bike Works)
- Jeff King (RIP. Founded the Folsom Breakouts in 1981)
Feel free to agree, disagree, and add more. Apologies to those I'm not thinking of off the top of my head.

Myke Berna?! That redneck from La Porte? Hahahahaha......I remember when his Auburn BMX bike was the only ride he had when he was a youngster back in 1989.
Love seeing Dan Mackey on there! Besides, there are already people from the 916 who are in the HOF, so this list can't really accurately show who should or shouldn't be in there,. since they already are.
Good friction shifting is getting hard to find nowadays....

Is there getting to be any type of trail system up in Lake Almanor area yet? Besides the trailway from Westwood to Susanville I mean?
Who did he tell you that?....

Not to my knowledge. Was up there in the shop about 5 years ago and told there was nothing new, which translates to only tiny bits of singletrack. But what potential!

Yeah wouldn't know, didn't really ride a bike back then. I would entertain trying to find the way up to fire lookout on Dyer Mtn though. Used to take dirtbike up there. That be a great grind of climb on a bicycle!

Bodfish is in the 530... he counts in my book I love his maps. I remember doing one of his mtb metric centuries in the early 90's... it just about killed me.

Gary Bell - original TAMBA founder and reason many trails are actually open here.

Marty, I don't quite know your resume, but I'm guessing you're a candidate for this list too!
Great additions everyone

Thanks for the kind word but no, my resume is a fraction of those everyone has listed. I do know I've greatly benefited from every last one of them. It would be great if there was a way to officially recognize their contributions in some way.

If you're counting Chico in the 916/530, Jeff Lindsay needs to be on the list. And how about that Jeff Barker guy?

Why I aught to.....thank you for getting me started in this madness way back when!
BTW: There's a rumor going around that you've gone soft and installed a Flexstem to the `89 Stumpy to take to Whistler this year. Whimp!

Negative. No PCRS for me this year. My oldest daughter wanted to do softball again this year. Games are on Wednesday nights and Saturday mornings.

How about the stoney-hippy-dude that used to ride that old-skool Salsa A-La-Carte around downtown Sac? I think his name was Tommy.
Also, all the homeless people around Discovery Park that kindly sprinkled the garbage trail with broken glass. Thanks for all the flats!!

Apologies to anyone I've inadvertently left off.
