The Weekly Ride and Trail Conditions Report: July 9-12, 2018

A little cooler this week for most parts of NorCal (and SoCal). Still no rain, and we need some. Many temperature records were broken down south this past weekend. Anybody down there this weekend?

    Trails updates and photos appreciated.

Found my oold GoPro in my garage last week, so I had to try it out.

Disclaimer before you potentially waste time on this: the camera angle and position turned out to be too low, and the chest mount bounces a lot with a rigid fork.

Turns out that having a camera on makes for a better workout

I noticed some squeeking/creaking while stopped late in the ride that sounded like a minor brake pad rub. But it still made the noise while holding both levers, so I may have a crack in the frame. I didn't want to know if I have a crack and I had a camera on, so I decided to just send it

Then I hit my hand on the only tree in proximity to the entire trail, that I have ridden past without hitting for 10 years. ...Because I had a camera on, lol

What's the lowdown on the Evo? Is it every day fun or a race day only bike like many others? I'm in the market for a new xc bike and these over forked, slightly slacker bikes appeal to me for their versatility.

Yes, that's right. Lugs would be cool, but that's just a little gusset on the top side of the top tube

It's really awesome so far. Taking it out with my son today and see what he thinks of it. He's never met an XC bike.

The only downside right now is that Brain shock. one can definitely feel it knocking and opening up on descents. But the open setting leaves it transparent. It's a better brain than before but I wonder if a DPX2 rear shock rear would be have been better for this with its completely seamless 'medium' mode set and forget. Maybe much lighter too.

760mm bars on an Epic. That says a lot.
