The Weekend Ride and Trail Conditions Report: June 15-17, 2018

The Weekend Ride and Trail Conditions Report: June 15-17, 2018-fathers-day-father-child.jpg

    Any Father's Day ride plans?

It's getting repetitive writing, 'no rain, perfect temps,' but that's the case again this week. The temps are even more perfect across all of NorCal. Maybe it's dusty, but you gotta ride when the weather is this nice.

    Photos and updates appreciated.

Why is it, you never post any ride pics? Do you actually ride?

Actually, I need to start getting out for group rides and photos and meeting people and tailgating etc., and stop being so antisocial. Due to my unpredictable work schedule, I usually ride alone or with my son and daughter, and I always seem to forget to take pics. But, I will take some this weekend, just for you!

This is where I rode this week, bet you can't guess where it is.

As more mountain bikers start riding Georgetown, the trails seem to be getting more ďsustainableĒ.

    Coincidence?

I agree with the above sentiment, time to get your ass out to a TNGR, surely you will be up at the MTBR Downieville weekend next weekend? Show yourself!
    I'm the problem....

Just did a short ride up Old Alpine Rd to the top of Skyline, stopping to session a few spots along the way. My top end endurance sucks after spending a week in Europe doing nothing but stuffing my face!

I put on a set of Vittoria Mezcal tires front and rear, just to see how fast they roll. They are REALLY fast tires. Sessioned some loose over hard flat turns and a few root sections on Old Alpine, these tires have great grip for a lightweight XC tire. I'm going to run one on the back of my HTLT with bigger tire up front for my everyday riding, will be interesting to see how they do at Demo/SC. Was a fun experiment.

As promised for Griz, some photos.

Nice little high speed flat turn with an easter egg jump. Was trying to find the break point on the Mezcals, had to go way too fast to get them to slide, foot out MX style.

Little root bump and jump section.

I actually think the new by pass section was done very well.

Well, China Camp was a let down today...I just want a repeat of last weekend up in Downieville. The trails are hella dry brah!

I also witnessed a helicopter rescue today. Some kid went down the embankment, it looked like about 40í...he was conscious and calm, he actually seemed ok. Medics and a helicopter arrived shortly after I got there. It was great to see my tax payer dollars going to good use.

Iíll post more pics when the photo uploaded likes me

Friend took me to Pacifica for the first time this morning. Walked a walk garden, sketch dry low traction, and features that would eat me. I loved it and look forward to slowly getting good enough to ride more there. Thank you to everyone who has put an insane amount of effort in there.

I went out on my new whip's first ride today started at jmp and got 1 run down cindy and big tress and called it quits. 150 hiker club meant no fun. Decided to.go to Lime Ridge and had the place all to myself and my new bike, but trails were dry and so slippery..loose over hard.

First time on the aggressor vs spending 2 years on dhr2. Obviously rolls and climbs well, but slides under braking bit at least predictably. On the fence about it..

Should have gone to UC instead.

    Coe again yesterday. Morning fog...

...followed by sunshine. China Hole and occupants.

That is a froglet. Halfway between a pollywog and a frog.

Bubbles coming out of my tire!

Never mind that, let's end this with a flower picture:

    Father's Day With My Clones

Annadel wasn't too crowded by 5:30 PM. After doing the Car Show gig with my dad, my sons and I did Annadel. I can still out climb both of them (only because I'm riding three days a week and they're not), but the oldest kills me on the downs.

Rode S. Burma backwards and then descended Ridge to Marsh and down. Ridge is in good shape, but it's really overgrown with weeds. I've never seen it this bad.

I rode the "normal" loop at China Camp yesterday around 7am on my 12 year old hardtail. It's no Tahoe but it's still a good loop. The first climb is great for me and I am so slow at it. The upper section of China is a little better, but I didn't really want to ride that with my 26x2.0 tires / 14 year-old hardtail. I really rely on FS / travel to make up for lack of skills.

    Where did the kid fall?

main loop can be really fun, just depends on when you're riding.

Griz is right though, finally got out for a ride on saturday after being sick for what feels like forever. Went home feeling sick again because i'd inhaled so much dust. all of the recent trail maintenance on shoreline/bay view has made it unbelievably dusty.

Right at the intersection where Echo comes into Bayview Trail. I didnít witness the accident but, the kid was down in the creek bed...about 40í down. That was probably as close to Redbull Rampage, that kid will get

I helped with some trail maintenance on Bay view as part of the Ales and Trails dig day. It was raining sort of the night before, but none of that moisture made it to the ground. The whole time we just kept hoping for rain.

Biking at 730am, none of the dust was in the air yet.

Thanks for your work, I help with the FOCC people every month or so (when i have a free day) but we mostly do weed-wacking and stuff like that. I guess it all comes together eventually. Either way, it needs rain!!
