    Weekend Ride Report July 14th - 16th

Jeni is working Northstar and I'm hitting the Auburn Bike Co Marin demo to try out the new Wolf Ridge bike! After that who knows. So many choices here in Norcal.

I suggest climbing the mountains. Whether on 2 wheels or 2 feet. Just do it!

^^^Didn't you just get a new bike? Are you actually looking, or just beating up demo bikes instead of yours?

    Nice photo man!!!!

I get to try the new Wolf Ridge bike today too! The rep is coming down today and asked if I wanted anything from Russian River.

Looks like a friggin heatwave coming Sat/Sun so it's a good idea to ride today it seems.

Yup. 104 in the valley tomorrow.

I read Saris' review on the bike and it sounds pretty cool!

We did some swappy bike swaps. The Wolf Ridge was actually incredible. It keeps speed very well on very rough stuff and seems to accelerate and not get hung up on downhills.

    Right on, fc!

I got off at 4 and hit the bike shop to check out the Wolf Ridge. I only had time for 1 shuttle run down Culvert but that was enough to get a feel for the bike. I'll wait for fc to review it but I will say this, it climbs like a MUCH shorter travel bike and an efficient one at that. I'm pretty certain it climbs (non-technical) better than my The Calling. I'd put it up against the Spider 275c and Primer for sure.

Got to catch up with the CEO of Santa Cruz Bikes, Joe Graney. He was the head engineer there but they keep bumping him up. 120 people last year but 170 rad folks now.

I hit up Granite Bay and Lake Natoma trails yesterday from my house. Trails were busy with lots of equestrians, hikers and us bikers. With the lake being so high some parts of the trails leading back to the climb to the bench are completely under water and you need to use the roads to get back to that point. It is not a ton of trail that you cannot access but the knowledge of the flooded points will save some back tracking.

I just got home from a solo ride at Annadel...nobody wanted to ride in the heat with me. I rode for 2.5 hrs...I felt ok. It was already 90 degrees when I finished up at 12:45. I headed over to Cooperage Brewing for a cold one

Gave a Socal/OC krew a tour of UC-Wilder, 24 miles/3300 ft. and lots of air time. There were several post-ride comments along the lines of "Best ride ever!"

We weren't really affected by the horse event--the poop levels on Rincon/U-con seemed lower than in past years, the trails weren't even very chowdered, and the only rider we passed on the trails told us to just keep pedaling, because her horse is bothered more by stationary cyclists (like we all are). Good times.
Friends don't let friends ride e-"bikes" on dirt.

Nature is not a sidewalk (I'm looking at you, MidPen).

Really amazing ride today. Started at 8:30 and done by 11am. A first-time rider there, an old friend with an 8-week old baby and a new found All Mountain rider.Weekend Ride Report July 14th - 16th-img_8668-1-.jpg

We (Bikes Buds & Brews) did Mill's Peak / Butcher Ranch shuttle yesterday. It was hot but if you stayed moving it wasn't too bad. Nothing a swim in the cold river couldn't fix! After a total of 27.8 miles with only 1,700ft. of climbing I was exhausted. We hit the Mexican place for lunch, my first time, and while the burrito was good the beer selection was horrid! I settled on a Modelo as it was the best option. Next time I'll go back to Two River's Cafe and real beer.

We only had 1 mechanical and it was mine. I hit a small rock drop and felt the back tire go mushy. I pulled over thinking I finally killed a tire at Downieville. Nope, turns out a rock smashed my valve core and bent the tip. Tire was fine so I simply swapped in a new core and away I went. A few miles later on the Jeep road a rock smashed into my shin. If not for my Costco wool sock I'm pretty certain I would have lost the leg. Damn that hurt! Great fun was had by all.

You keep getting after it man!!! Soo cool.

I don't know when I'll get up there. I do have one bike media event at Nakoma Lodge. We shall see as I need to get my kid up there. Hopefully in temperature less than 100.

    How much for Nakoma?

I also have a Northstar event at the end of this month. I'll send you an invite since I need a photographer or photo subject.

Let me know about SC. Looks like the weather will just keep heating up in inland.

Last I looked it was a few hundy.

I'm down to assist at Northstar. Jeni is usually up there on Fridays and Saturdays anyway.

Looks like we're doing SC on the 31st. The guys already have it planned and I'm trying to get the day off. If it works I'll hit you up. Would be fun to ride your trails.

I did a little riding around Washington this weekend, but I need to come back up that way and do some exploring. I had no trail map, nor cell or internet connection and didn't have anyone to ride with.

My wife and I drove into Nevada City and kicked around a little. While heading back towards Washington, we stopped at Harmony Ridge and learned a little more about the trail network up your way. I'm excited to get back up there and ride that area.

Nice! I've only ridden the basic trails starting up at the main overlook or from White Cloud. Let me know when you're coming back up and we can ride or I can find someone else who can help guide.
