what exactly is the "men's mountain bike"
what kind of races are they?
my friend said that this is the first year that they are having downhill mountain bike racing in the olympics, but when i was scrolling on the DH forum, everyone was saying that there was no mountain bike racing in the olympics

Olympic MTB is XC. No DH, but a HUGE BMX track for the 1st year of BMX. Did I mention huge? 40' tall starting ramp. Huge doubles.

No one really cares about MTB races because they're boring to watch. MTB racing is something you do, not something you watch. A camera can't convey what's going on very well.

I'll stick to watching the road, track, and bmx racing, mtb racing on tv has always been a disappointment.

    I disagree in this case

Cross races are pretty damn fun to watch, and the Olympic XC is like a big cross race.

There are cameras all over the course and they had a 4X builder spruce the loop up w/a bunch of man made obstacles and such so it will defintaely be entertaining to watch.

I agree with you, XC is something you do, not watch.

Unless you like watching grass grow, paint dry or golf on TV. Then XC might be fun.

I'd watch XC racing, but all we've had so far is amateur filming and photography. Its easier to film road racing, since you have motorcycles to ride along. Much harder on XC courses, although I've seen a little bit of it here and there on fireroads.

Of course we all would rather ride/race than watch it, but thats nothing new ... same with all sports. There's always a market for it, just far far less than other sports.

Apparently, folks are quite a bit more willing to watch all sorts of crap during the Olympics so, relatively-speaking, mountain biking is rather entertaining compared to the likes of synchronized swimming.

Right now I'm actually watching the all-star game (slingbox) as it goes into the 14th inning. Yes. I am a watcher and you are a do-er. Congrats.

Just make sure you don't include me int eh do-er category. I'm a commentator, they don't really do anything.

So when is the BMX suppose to be on? I have a feeling that will be more exciting than XC mtn bike race where the US will almost have no chance of winning.

My son's girlfriend is slated to be in the '12 Olympics for Synchro. Don't even get me started: THEY WORK THEIR A$$$ES OFF. So I'll watch all the synchro I can. There.

Exactly what I mean. If synchronized swimming can be watched, surely mountain biking can be.

BMX may be interesting, we'll see. I watched some X-games stuff the other day and honestly it was painful ... I Just could not relate to it.

Back on topic, here's a good place to get info:

Lucky you. We have Dish here in Vegas and their coverage sucks. I get the one mixed coverage of the women's podium stuff and that's it. The rest NBC says can be watched "online". Does anyone know if they will be storing the stuff online for awhile, or would I have to stay up to watch it live? (ugh)
The secret to mountain biking is pretty simple. The slower you go the more likely it is you'll crash.
