Trail conditions on Mendocino Coast 1/9/18

After receiving 2.44" of rain in the last 24 hours, please consider gravel grinding if you are planning to come up this weekend.

Trails will be a mess for a week or two. Trail worked sections like middle of EZOut should be avoided at all cost. Tread is very sloppy and fragile at the moment. Hopefully, our equestrian community will recognize our situation and stick to fire roads. Still raining at the moment with no let up in sight. Gravel ride tomorrow if rain stops at Big River at 10AM.

    Last weekends trail work day

Waiting for a dry spell, and then Mendo here we come. Can't wait to ride the revised/improved EZOut, easily one of the best trails in the state even before you guys fixed that bombed-out middle section.

    Roo,

Thanks for the update. I was hoping to ride JDSF Jan. 19th, 20th, and 21st. Current forecast is for rain most of next week, so not looking good! But in case the forecast changes and there is dry weather for the next week, a trail conditions update would be welcome.

    Thanks!

I agree, EZOut always had great quality. One of Chris Clutton's best trail designs ever here on the coast. And, it was all "Legal" too!

Here are some more pictures of new trail sections. The first two are raised up cribbed sections. Once the dirt/clay hardens it will be perfect.

Plus, for those looking to do a fun yet demanding climb, all the lower switch backs have been worked with many roots removed. Now, that first right hand uphill is doable once again. Last winter's rains really exposed many gnarly small roots. GONE!

Total Rain fall since Jan 1 2018 = 3.44" of which 2.67" was in the last 4 days! I wonder if Widow Maker is still sliding?

    Trail conditions as of 1/12/18

    Dave,

We're heading out from the Scales today, with fenders of course, to check out conditions. Mostly gravel I suspect will be in the cards. Maybe see if Sweet Pea is rideable to gather some shrooms. Hedge Hogs are everywhere at the moment. I picked a bag yesterday to give Myke for his excellent wheel work he did for me recently.

I will keep the conditions reported on MTBR this next week. Next report will be Wednesday the 17th.

A group of the Steam Donkeys are heading over to Wente tomorrow to give Kevin some hand work on his trails. I'm looking forward to seeing what he has created.

The riding was actually very good yesterday. Very little standing water and most of that was found on Rd 500. Trails are rideable at the moment!
