    Trail Building in Eldo Hills

I've been busy building trails in El Dorado Hills. There's a lot of potential, climbs, rock gardens, etc. I'm mostly repurposing game trails and juvenile delinquent hangouts. I'm taking off this Friday to do some more building and riding. If you are interested, send me a PM.

    dude thank you!

I've found a few new trails on my last few rides around edh. They looked like game trails but they rocked. Thanks!

If you ride around lunch time I'll join you. I've been working a couple of spots from the top of Serrano down that could be really nice with some more riding. What area is that in the pics?

Was that you who put in the little technical section on the Wild Oaks trail just before the first bridge?

I'm not the one who built the new technical section on the three bridges trail, but I'm glad it was added. By the way, that technical section is very similar to the type of trail I'm putting in. It's rocky, technical, and slow moving. Since the area only has a couple of miles of territory, this type of trail is perfect. However, there are some big hucks off of rocks I put in as well. One of them is a solid 4 footer. I won't state the actual location, since this is a public forum, but it's been mentioned. Regardless, it will never be commercialy developed due to the logistics and terrain difficulties. In addition, no one has been riding one whole side available since it's overgrown and no chainring marks are in any of the bigger logs. Someone on a minibike has been establishing some trails on one side, but they generally suck and stopped once the going gets rough. Also, since the ground is moist, establishing new trail is a cinch. Pruning rees has been the most time consuming, but even this is easy. With a little forethought, this could be a really cool tight technical singletrack diversion.

Mephasto, I will be around at lunch. Send me a pm.

Dang, this looks right up my alley, but not anywhere near my neck of the woods. Too bad, this looks to have serious potential. Keep up the good work.

Empty, I would be up for some more building tomorrow. Let me know a time...

By the way, in the photos Mephisto posted, check out the nice poison oak shrub in the foreground. I think it's one of the reasons no one has spent much time there. Needless to say, I've been making use of technu after each outing. We tore out an assload of that nasty stuff today.

Between a few people, we put in about 20 man hours of trail building over the last couple of days.

Empty put in a cool steep section by himself. It has a large 20 ft chunk of rock that looks like a line can be done down it. The pictures don't do it justice. It's about a 60 degree slope with a one foot gap of rock in the face. I looked at it for a solid 5 minutes, before deciding that being solo and helmet less was a bigger issue than feeding my ego. Even the regular line Empty built is still challenging. By the way Empty, the end of the section you built is the exact place where we were starting to build the lower traversing tier. The first two pictures are Empty's addition. The others are just various areas we have been working on.

I will be out there this week after work. If anyone wants to join in, let me know.

looks great! I'm going to head over there tomorrow to see this in person. As for my project, the trail is about 90% done, just needs a bit of smoothing out and riding on before it will be finished. However, I'm headed back to Chico this week for school and wont be able to put the finishing touches on it.

here a shot doing that roll down, it needs a little catch berm at the bottom then going further to the right would be super smooth.

Here's the latest from today, a 40-50ft log run with all of the offending branches removed. It rises a good three feet off of a very rocky creek bed.

Here's a big huckable rock... First picture is coming down toward the huck. The second is looking at the front side of the rock you are coming off.

With our recent rains, trail building conditions are going to be prime. Forget about trashing your local trail and come build. It is even more satisfying than trail maintenance since you are getting to define the trail from scratch.

Intrigued by the thought of more trails close to home, I left home Sunday afternoon with bike, shovel and pruners to help out.
No luck on actually finding the spot after searching for a 1/2 hour I thought I knew where the trail may be but I found another area that may be worth looking into.
Would someone PM me the whereabouts of the trail please I would love to help build.

I'd like to help out on this sometime, as well. I know for a fact that Emptybeer has some extra trail tools.

I also have a lot of Technu. There was a grocery store getting rid of stock for a super-cheap price. I bought all they had.

Debbie Downer here... might not want to spend a ton of time building out the area. Parker Development has big plans for that hillside

    http://1001.nccdn.net//000/000/05d/0...d-01-28-13.pdf

Doesn't mean you can't build some fun lines, but maybe don't get too emotionally attached to them. I'll guess the Ridgeview area homeowners will fight hard to keep this development from moving forward.

That development is as proposed better for the residence than originally approved in the GP. The plan includes a density bonus to preserve the ridge line The residents can slow it but eventually it'll develop. If they don't want development there then buy it, better served by working with them and address design and other concerns rather than getting nothing. Most developers are getting serious about land development as the housing stock in the sacto area is at historic lows. The development may not happen this year but it will move forward, so your keen on only putting so much investment into it. I would however recommend that if you want to keep any of the trail even at total build-out to get involved to keep something available to ride in the future. Either way great trail building nonetheless, wish I could help but barely get out enough to ride as it is.

Yeah, I heard about this last week. However, it looks like most of the development is on the lower part of the slope. It's not going to stop me from working on it. It's just a short distance from my house, so it's something fun to do. Knowing how development works around here, I'm guessing that it will be some time before it really gets moving.

Sent you a pm. With the rains coming, building will be good. Over the weekend, a couple of us put in a smoother transition to a big rock drop off. If anyone likes taking advantage of natural features, this is the place.

Some good stuff out there! Built a nice little section todoay with a few jumps. But what I really want to build up is this sweet 6-7 foot drop. Just need a wooden transition and it will be awesome!

Pics don't the jumps justice. The second two are pretty big, esp the second one that lands into a decent downhill.
    The berm looked nice.

So is what used to be the top line and is now the middle line abandoned? I was riding that line from left to right as you look up the hill
and it kind of disappears now. HAB'd up to the top line which is looking good.

Also if one of you guys are missing one of those tennis ball throwers for dogs its laying right next to the berm.

No, it's not abandoned. Its actually getting quite worn in. You might have got sucked into one of the game trails by accident. I will draw a topo in the next day and post it.

    Trail Building in Eldo Hills

Worked on this little number this evening Trail Building in Eldo Hills-imageuploadedbytapatalk1361154284.486389.jpg

That corner seemed nearly impossible to maneuver so I widened it a bit.
And at the bottom of the trail I put in an easier way to cross the creek Trail Building in Eldo Hills-imageuploadedbytapatalk1361154440.535982.jpgTrail Building in Eldo Hills-imageuploadedbytapatalk1361154462.252919.jpg
