The Thrill That'll Gitcher, When You Git Yer Picture...

...On The Cover Of The Rolling- err, LODESTAR?

Hmmm, doesn't have quite the ring as "Rolling Stone", but I'll take it.

A few months ago I got a call from a guy named Dean, who takes pics & writes for the weekly Calaveras rag Lodestar, saying he was doing an article on trails in the area. He wanted more info on the trails at Hogan and suggested we meet & ride so he could get some pics. We rode, had a pretty good time (I loaned him a bike as it was only his second mtb ride evar), and he told me that the pics would garnish the article he was writing. I made sure to wear my MTBR jersey (probably went over better than if I'd worn my Jester bong jersey).

The months went by, and several weeks ago he emailed me, saying not only were a couple of pics inside the mag, but I had made the cover, along with my dog, Endo. Woohoo!

And a few weeks ago, on the way to the Blues & Bones bash up in Angels Camp, I stopped at a buttload of stores & grabbed as many copies as I could, sending them to friends & relatives & francois. If you didn't get one, guess you're not any of those.

So here it is, thanks to francois, who converted it to a jpeg for me.

    Nice Finch.

I've never met Dean, but know him through climbing friends. He's working on a local climbing rag too.

Can't believe he doesn't mountain bike, but lives near some of the best trails in the state.

Good luck, they're already sold out. Try eBay. May be a couple of signed copies out there.

Yeah, I gathered from talking to him that he's really into climbing. He's a good photographer & writer as well, so it's a great combination.

I did what I could to get him excited about mtb-ing, even letting him use the squishy bike. Like I said, it was his second time riding, and he pulled it off with aplomb. Much better than his first ride- that consisted of pushing his bike clear up to the top of the Mineshaft Trail, then bombing down a DH run. Poor bastid.

A few of my friends climb with Dean, he is a hard climber. A fair number of Sonora riders are also climbers.
