If this was the first storm of the month, it would be darn good for the trails. But at this point when the trails are already soaked and perfect, this will put us over the top for the next 10 days.

Special Weather Statement
Statement as of 8:11 AM PST on November 25, 2012
... A strong Pacific storm will impact the region by Wednesday and
last through next weekend...
A large area of low pressure will push across the North Pacific
by the early to middle part of this coming work week. This will
bring a large change to the weather pattern for the area.
Conditions will remain partly sunny... dry..and mild to start the
week with high pressure lingering over the area.
Rainfall will move into the area by early Wednesday morning and
rain chances will remain high into early next weekend. While it
remains too early to predict total rainfall amounts... the overall
weather pattern will be favorable for widespread and significant
rain across the region.
In addition to the rainfall..gusty south winds will accompany the
low pressure by Wednesday. This will produce hazardous boating
conditions on the area waters with possible gales. Strong and
potentially damaging winds will occur over high terrain areas as
well.
With several days until the storm system impacts the
area... details will change on exact timing and intensity of the
upcoming changes to the weather. However... residents need to be
aware of the upcoming changes and the increased chances of high
impacts from significant rainfall and gusty winds.
Please continue to monitor the latest statements regarding the
upcoming storm system and its impacts on the San Francisco Bay
area. Later forecasts will refine the details of
timing... intensity... and location of the greatest hazards.
These conditions should be great for digging. Still plenty of stuff to do - particularly the switchback section near the fern trail. Berms and rollers and all that.
Free coffee, pastries, pizza and refreshing beverages for trail workers. Trail day sponsored by our good friends at Verve Coffee and Caletti Cycles.
The Bicycle Trails Council of the East Bay has several guys locally who are deeply invested in this latest work. We put in a lot of time with VoCal prior to the trailwork to make sure that the path made sense and I think it paid off nicely. The execution of the work by about 80 volunteers was major but contained certain abberations to our philosophy, not uncommon with large volunteer groups with a variety of trail goals.
The simple fact of 2 inches of rain (finally!) after the work in June did much to bed this in. There will be a few um...adjustments... made to the early summer work to bring it into line with our vision. Stay tuned.
This is starting to look more like an absolute ride killer for a few weeks.
A STRONGER SYSTEM IS EXPECTED TO MOVE INTO THE NORTHERN PORTION OF
THE BAY AREA BY THURSDAY...BRINGING MORE INTENSE AND PROTRACTED
RAINFALL. MODEL FORECASTS ARE IN GENERAL AGREEMENT THAT UPWARDS OF
10 TO 15 INCHES MAY FALL IN HIGHER ELEVATION AREAS OF THE NORTH BAY
THROUGH THE WEEKEND...WHILE VALLEY BOTTOMS MAY RECEIVE AROUND 5 TO 6
INCHES.
Time to get out the tools and rip my bike apart for the winter.
Awai and I came down Eldridge in similar conditions last year. Kind of sketchy across the wet rocks, but whole lots of fun for sure. Certainly doesn't compare to the gorgeous video, but the sense of riding down a stream was certainly there. Beautiful conditions for a ride.
