I'm not much of a downhiller, but I was forced to ride down Toads yesterday (7/9).Tahoetic and I dropped off a vehicle at Strawberry Lodge and then headed up Armstrong pass expecting to go down the TRT to Christmas Valley and Pony Express. But halfway between Armstrong Pass and Toads I blew a sidewall. The tear was right on the edge of the rim so even with a patch there was a pretty good bulge. So we headed down Toads to Wattabike for a new tire. I already suck at going downhill, but it was even more stressful waiting for the tube to pop out.
By the time the tire was replaced it was over 90 degrees, which is pretty hot for Tahoe. That, plus the long cool down delay, left me with little enthusiasm for continuing on. But we eventually made our way up Hawley Grade and took Pony Express back to Strawberry Lodge. It turned out to be a pretty good ride.
