is there much to ride? I rode up there on the road bike the other day...locals said only thing around was just a "small trail around the lake, it's good in spots, other parts are...just okay"

The kit carson inn place to eat is fully stocked with swedish foreign exchange student waitresses. Made ordering a chore, but damn...just, yup, go there.

Not gonna camp, but might be interested in hooking up for a ride one day as I've been itching to get out to Thunder Mountain & Horse Canyon combine that with some of the single track in Kirkwood you have a dam good ride.

    Thunder Mountain / Horse Canyon

Also there are some fine point to points that start over there and head back to South lake.

That Squaw ridge loop to the top of Horse canyon is pretty adventurous and technical, better to just ride or drive the short ways to the bottom of horse canyon and loop it via Thunder Mountain with an out an back to the top of Horse IMHO.

For the fit and adventurous people, there are some cool loops out to Strawberry and back also, Starting from the Cables lake area.

I was corresponding last year with a guy that has an interesting sounding loop that incorporates Squaw Ridge, the ride should come in at about 35 or so miles with about 6K vert. 4K of that would be in one predominantly downhill stretch from Martin Point to the bottom of Caples Creek at Silverfork Rd, seems like a sick point to point could be figured out also.

In other words there are lots of riding opportunity's especially for those that like a little adventure.

Cool! I am out of shape & will have the dog, so I'll just ride what I can. I could also be a shuttle driver, if you needed one (I'd have to use someone's car, tho).

TahoeBC, thanks for the info/vid, and ZnZ/Ogre, thanks for the map!

I don't mind suffering, but having done Squaw Ridge twice, I don't think you could pay me to do it again. It should be called Sandy Ridge. Too sandy to ride. Not that the climb up Thunder Mountain is a cakewalk, but the scenery is far nicer!

If I can swing it, I might head that way and join ya.

That Squaw ridge trail is not so fun, as much as a challenge to see how good or bad of shape you are in. The end from above Kirkwood rips pretty good! Is that what you are talking about climbing up? That would seem more fun to me, staying off of those jeep roads (jeeps are cool to see though). I used to love that end part after endless climbing. I used to ride that loop, but now that I am older, I just want more fun riding, or NEW stuff that is painful.

Sounds like fun. You thinking of camping at Silver Lake East, Silver Lake West, or somewhere else?

    Hey Gary!

I would love to ride with you (it's been ages and ages since the last time), and I would love to check out the Thunder Mtn / Silver Lake / Kirkwood area, but I'll be in Vegas to celebrate my mom's 80th B Day.

So while you guys slog thru endless decomposed granite and hike a bike over chunkalicious chunky chunk, i'll be gettin' my drink on poolside drooling over the thong clad hotties gettin' their tan on. oh hell yeah!

pics and TR or it didn't happen mofos!!!!

had a blast in vegas this weekend, but i definitely would have rather been slogging thru endless piles of decomposed granite and bouncing thru chunkalicious chunky chunk in tahoe than shooting craps and checkin' out the hotties at the Cosmopolitan Hotel and Casino in vegas, baybee!

Silver Lake rides/camping, Fri July 12th thru Sunday the 14th-img_0856.jpg

Although i must say, vegas is THE place for bachelorette parties and the Cosmo is THE place in vegas for bachelorette parties. WOW. call me a dirty old man, i doan' give a f**k, but the sheer numbers of twenty somethings prancing around all dolled up... words cannot describe....

schwing!!! schwing!!! and mega schwing!!! schwing!!!

    that is all.
