    No getting out of that one without boots full of water.

    That first photo is really cute, though. Seems to really say something about childhood.

    Hmf. Some children need to be throttled! In a loving way, of course.

    Way back in the day (like 1982) I used to ride a trials bike with another buddy through a local creek/tree line. There was a neighbor kid who used to bomb through the same trail on a motocross bike with no exhaust baffle. That got old pretty quick so we devised a plan. We created a fake trail line crossing the creek where it was probably 10' across and dropped off into a puddle of muck 6' below trail level. The genius (we thought) was that the approach was lower than the landing zone so even though it looked like you could jump it, you would have had to hop it (and none of us could have done that back then). One day we hear him screaming down the trail so we both get lined up in the landing zone and when he came into view we both rode away from our "landings". He tried to jump the gap and he came closer than we thought he would, he got the front wheel over edge before he slid into the muck. He managed to keep the bike running until the intake filled with water. We never asked, but I think he thought he could ride out of there but I don't know how. We couldn't have done it on trials bikes.
    The most expensive bike in the world is still cheaper than the cheapest open heart surgery.

    Some folks never outgrow that look. Here's a buddy of mine, pushing 40 in this shot, striking the same pose as we came back to help him extract his bike from the scrub next to a little hillclimb that bested him.

    I wasn't certain whether to put this here, or the "Sad, Disturbing sight..." thread. I can finally type with ~1.3 hands, so time to fess up;

    I am the 4th person I'm aware of who has gone OTB on their MTB since about mid-Feb. Its an epidemic, right? GAH!

    Apparently I was the only one to be THIS stupid;

    2 days before new-knee surgery, I do this. Doc sez it should buff out by May.

    If the soft bits heal normally, knee surgery will be postponed until fall so I can ride this summer.

    Sh!t in deed!

    Where is that photo (generally, no need for specifics)? Any idea what that stuff is on the top of the water? I've only seen it in one place here in the Sacramento area but don't know what it is or if specific conditions cause it.

    Mosquitofern or Azolla. It's generally considered beneficial to pond ecosystems but it can be a nuisance if it becomes too dense. It's a nitrogen fixer and waterfowl love it.

    Read this thread if you have time to kill: https://www.southbayriders.com/forums/threads/107747/

    TLDR: A KLR650 was lost in the current. It spent 7 at the bottom of the creek, and was finally visible/rescued since the creek level had subsided a bit. After some basic cleaning to remove water from the cylinder, exhaust, intake... it fired right up!
