    SF Pedi Cab Cyclist Killed

A tragedy. Kevin Manning killed by a reckless hit and run driver who is still at large.

Poignant article. Father and a grandfather.

    So sad. Thanks for posting.

Knew him from the pedicab lineup at the Ferry Building when I frequented it. I don't think we ever spoke but I always saw him chatting with the other pedicabs, putting a smile on everyone's face. RIP.

This is my daily commute, and my worst nightmare. I got hit by a bus in that same "suicide lane" (vehicle traffic on both sides) about 100 feet down the road from where Kevin was hit. The city has a plan to build a protected bike lane, but won't do it for the next 5-15 years because they might have to re-build certain sections as part of the sea wall project. It makes me equal parts sad and furious. Aaron Peskin is the absolute worst.

There's no way the driver didn't know he hit the rider. Find his ass and string him up!

I've been on edge every time I see a 4 door Civic with front end damage. If you see one with white or pink paint on the front-right bumper, snap a pic and send it to me, please. This murderer lives and/or works in San Francisco (car looked like it had an Uber sticker on the front).

The callousness with which motorists regard cyclists is truly distressing.

Here's some followup from an event that occurred here awhile back.

Benefield: Why such misplaced hatred for cyclists?

It's what we deal with and it has to change. Unfortunately it's a reflection of our society right now and how easy it is to dehumanize others. It sucks!

This really sucks. R.I.P Keith Manning.

Uber/Lyft drivers rarely live in SF (who can afford the most expensive rent city in the world?) and they often suck at driving here due to inexperience and having to follow their app's maps. Also, when you depend on positive reviews from your enslavers, you'll make just about any dangerous maneuver to save your lazy passengers a few steps - the abrupt, unannounced, mid-block 3-point U-turn, for example. Where I live, rideshare is a plague, and there is near-zero traffic law enforcement. LEOs are probably overwhelmed with all the regular crime and have no resources to deal with the onslaught of rideshare/shared bikes/scooters/boost boards, u name it. It's the wild west out here on these streets and no one cares until a tragedy like this goes down.

    Salty AF, I know.

That's what I thought too, that's why I included the pic with the post.

I know. I've told some of you about my bro-in-law in Hawaii who was killed while on a ride. They never prosecuted the driver even after finding her and finding her at fault.

Still no logical explanation for that one either.

    cant they contact Uber?

i cannot imagine you dont have to enter "type of car" when you sign up..no?

that would narrow the search down significantly.

(sorry, i'm bound to the couch; i've been binge-watching TV detective shows)
