    Photo Assignment: Water

    Don't hate it, embrace it.

An abundance of water means rushing creaks and waterfalls. Let's take some photos of water.

    Great photo!

This is some serious weather... I woke up a few times last night due to the wind. I was sure we were going to lose power.

Saratoga Creek right behind my house, USGS site showed a peak of 200cfs up in Saratoga. Looks like I got some new firewood:

And yep, those are ducks out in the stream:

It was only about 4' wide last week (@ 2cfs):

And I would assume the San Tomas Aquino Creek bike trail will probably be closed until Monday at least. Water levels should drop fairly fast but it'll take the city some time to clear out all the mud and debris on the underpasses.

And the sun just broke through the clouds, the solar heat just kicked on at the house!

If I complete the assignment FC you have to bring me a bottle of either Jameson's or Johnny Walker? Call it an early "Big 4-0" presnet from ya??

*The following 5 Crappy-ish cell phone or security camera shots are b/c I didn't have the Canon on me b/c battery went dead.*

Friday @10am, Hwy280 N/B just past Homestead right before they just decided to completely shut it down while the water cleared. 8-10" wave behind the cars in front of me.

"Wal-Mart Lake" in Union City, about 8-12" deep, right after they pulled a "stanced" BMW out of it. **WTF you would try to even drive into that w/o a truck is beyond me. For Thursday and Friday we got a little over 2" of rain in total, right now with last night's downpour we're sitting right at 1-1/2" so far. I'll wait the rest of tonight into tomorrow am before dumping the gauge out again.

I got to float some sticks and leaves downstream with my two year old daughter. It was just in some drainage next to a sidewalk that was really flowing, not like the Yuba river. I didn't get any pictures. I think I liked it more than she did.

Saratoga Creek came up to about 1500cfs on Sunday:

Had a few feathered visitors in the back yard, this Egret usually hangs out down in the creek, but he had a pretty puzzled look today:

There was also a Mallard duck in the back yard. Looked like it was down in the water and got soaked, so it was up drying off and warming up in the sunshine. She took off after a couple of hours.

Waterfall of sorts where Saratoga Creek dumps into San Tomas Aquino Creek, almost enough mist coming off it for a rainbow:

The bike path is/was underwater at quite a few of the lower underpasses, like here next to the new 49ers stadium. Water had been as high as the base of the bridge abutment:

Guadalupe River looks like a real river, it ran from levee to levee at 237. I think it was still rising as I saw no high water marks on the River Trail under crossings I checked:

Did get in almost 18 miles of riding trying to hit all the open sections of the San Tomas bike trail plus a section of the 237 Bikeway and the Guadalupe River trail. Normally that ride would be around 11-12 miles but lots of back and forth road riding to get between trail sections.
