Only SS + X through winter?

Considering riding only the following this winter through spring (~late April):

    • Single speed mtb

    • X bike

Have you gone without your FS rig for a longer spell like this? Did you desperately miss it or did you relish the experience? Trails open during the winter near my neck of the woods are mostly pretty tame.

The year before last I only rode my 2005ish Niner SIR 9 for the whole winter. I rode it everywhere including on lots of trails that I never would have ridden on a hard tail prior to. My full suspension bike had something wrong with it and I never got around to fixing it.

I came out of the winter pretty strong. I don't know that I was in the best shape of my life but def pretty strong. More than that, I had a ton of fun riding that bike. That summer I got a new full suspension and now my old 9er is gather dust again, which is lame.

Yes of course it's fine! Your buddies will get used to you climbing quicker than they do.

SS only every winter. Why jack up high dollar stuff in the mud and muck? All I worry about is bottom brackets and brake pads.

I hate the mud. Once trails get muddy it's pretty rare that I head out on them. These days I just hang up the MTB and hit the pavement.

Pretty much same here: FS goes to the back of the pack and the rigid Mtn, roadie, cx, and trainer bike see all the miles until the clay muck dries up. Although who knows when winter will hit this year...

Why would you ever ride with gears and suspension anyway? I have two single speed hardtails, one for XC, and one for AM/FR/DH. Don't have any bikes that are season specific though.
