    New Weekly Chico Rides?

Is anybody else having trouble pulling up the weekly chico thread? Anyway, here are some cool shots from my ride tonight. The first is my new bike and a cool sunset. The second is Tim Olson trudging up frisbee golf on his Session 10.

It was actually Tuesday night. The only way I can keep Tim in sight is if he rides his downhill bike. He was actually pushing his bike just before that picture was taken. I couldn't get my camera out fast enough.

I was near the bottom of B trail and Tim passed me going up. I stopped to chat to someone for a minute on middle and Tim was ahead of me. Tim went up B-trail and down Old Live Oak just a minute or two slower than it took me to finish B and middle. He was on his Remedy...freaking insane.

Apparently the apple doesn't fall to far from the tree. The first pic is 10 year old Eli Olson. The second is his dad Tim. I get stuck taking all the pictures.

    RE: Poison Oak...

Has anyone tackled the massive bush of P.O. on Lower? It's at the top of a small climb (if I'm not mistaken - rocky), left-hand side, heading west, shortly after Middle trail JCT.?
It's massive and really invading the left side of the trail on a left turn. I know P.O. very well (unfortunately) and I always have to 'double-take' there because it resembles one of those big holly bushes from a ways off.

I, too, am one of those who gets it badly, otherwise I'd be out there w/ my loppers.
    Honestly... ahh I give up

B trail is like one giant tunnel of Poison Oak. I'm sure I'm going to get it after my ride today. Also, I saw the biggest Rattlesnake I've ever seen in the park today. It was at least 3' long and fat as hell. I tried to take a picture but by the time I got my phone out it moved to the bushes. Summer is a comin'

Hi all. I ride in bidwell all the time, and just ran across this forum for the first time. Now that it's getting hot again, I try and jump in bear hole after I ride if I think I brushed any oak. Seems to help. Anyway, I'm looking to do a little camping/riding trip next week, and I have been hearing about a trail out in Paskenta to the west of town. Does anyone know anything about this trail? I can't find much on the internet.

Thats the stuff of legend. Those who know about it tend not to give a good description of where it is. Kind of like the other paradise trails

From my understanding there are some nice trails but they are illegal now, don't know if they're enforced. Big fires over in Paskenta this year too.

as for the information, the area became wilderness sometime in 2007. Have been there twice (first time not knowing that its legality was questionable)

second time rode the bottom section which is a rutted fire road, (because the top was snowed in)

Yeah, but what are you going to do in Paskenta? I thought the problem was the long winding drive up the mountains... in which case a geo still sucks.

I bet the website hasn't changed because b/c no one went to the office today.
Signs definitely take precedence, I don't think there's enough moisture from today, but the way the valley is constructed (or destructed - depending on how you look at it) from varying porous and impermeable layers, the park will seep for a while. So even if it's sunny, it won't be open for riders.

Lower park single-track and the upper-park road are open for MTB.

3-4 days after any significant rain and the park open back up. Just based off the 10-day forecast I would expect the park to be open no later than next Friday or Saturday.

I'll be heading up South Rim, see you on the trails.
Hmm, up the South Rim sounds good, but I might save that for the weekend and try a larger loop

I'm moving back to Sweet Home Chico, where the skies are so blue!

The Napa Valley can suck a fart out of my anus.

dunno for sure...first or middle of next month.

Gaw Dam, I can't wait to get back to a place where there's stuff to do and where mountain biking is not a crime against the kingdom.

time for early morning or late evening rides I guess

Hey...anyone out there down for a shuttle up to disc golf course to play a round, maybe have some beers and then ride down? - maybe guardian or south rim
    Honestly... ahh I give up

Weird day today. I had to call 911 for a hiker I came across on middle trail. He looked confused and paranoid, was stumbling around, pawing at the ground, staring into the sky, twisting his arms around, moving up and down, etc. Only response I ever got out of him was that he had been in the park "quite a while". Didn't see any emergency bracelets. He looked like he had been out for a real hike and had a small pack. I helped the ranger find him on the trail then I took off. I really hope he is ok now.

I was pretty drained at that point, so I couldn't help but wonder afterwards whether I didn't hallucinate the whole thing

What a trip. Heat casualty, y'spose?

I'm always amazed at the number of people I'll see hiking up the North Rim Trail with little/no water on them. Suckas gotta recognize.

I'm no paramedic, but thats what I thought too. That or acid.

I'm always surprised by those people too. Most surprising/impressive I ever saw was the older guy with no supplies coming down the North Rim on what looked like a 15yr old comfort bike with 1.5" semi-slicks. The point where I saw him was about 75% up to the North Rim!

While browsing Barnes & Nobles last night I noticed that the latest DirtRag has a feature article on the 20 year anniversary of our very own Paul Components. Congrats guys!

The article was pretty good and even had a section where the author went for a ride in Bidwell with Paul. Certainly good for my ego to hear an outsider from a national magazine commenting on how difficult Middle Trail is, especially in upper 90* heat

Hello, I'm just kinda getting into the mountain bike thing and am about to go pick up a 09 Trek Fuel EX7. I do not have any friends that are into biking, I heard there was a tues, thurs ride that meets at hooker oak. Is this club very newby friendly? I've been racing dirt bikes for years and wanted to get into biking as a cross training thing. Thanks
    Brad

Yes we are very friendly. Do don't have to be a super fast rider or anything like that.
We meet Tue / Thur at 6 pm at Hooker oak parking lot far left.
You should be happy with the bike.

Hope to see you out soon.

There is a good reason they all meet at "hooker" oak. they are all a bunch of *****es. So beware!

No really, its a good group of guys that all ride alot and really take care of the other riders in the group. Give it a shot.

I actually made it out on the trails, had only been 8 weeks Maybe now Norcalchico can keep up

i don't post on here much, but tomorrow is my last day to ride in chico, as i'm moving to the bay on saturday. all my riding buddies have left town already. would anyone be up for going for a pedal tomorrow with me? i'm pretty open all day, and for pretty much whatever ride.
although i need to say i've been off my bike for a couple weeks thanks to a good crash up in downieville opening week, but i'm feeling 100% now.

Here's to hoping some World Cup rider doesn't win Downieville. My buddy Tim is up there mixing it up with those guys and I would love to see a local win.

    Well I'm back in Chico.

Anybody got some tires to sell on the cheap (hella cheap)? I was gonna get some on craigslist, but they just screamed "stolen" to me and the mtb is no place for bad karma.

See youz guys soon on w00t's loop!
