We're holding one of the last trail build days of the year this Sunday on the new Monument Trail connecting above Cold Creek Trail to the Rim Trail. We're tying this in with a ride up and down checking out Cold Creek and Star Lake.
Free food to keep you fueled - doughnuts and coffee in the morning, lunch on the trail, and then post ride bbq with beer.
Meet up at the locked gate on High Meadow dirt road at 9am and we'll ride up from there. BBQ at end of the day in the same place.
For sure, the new Monument trail will open up a lot more options.. just like Star did last year. Monument probably won't be complete until mid next summer however.
Looks like we're going to have a decent turn out of people riding and building on Sunday. If you want to join us and need lunch, let me know, I'm going to hand out food down below at 9am and let every carry up their own sandwiches, sorry, my sherpa days are over. All tools will be up there already by the USFS. Then BBQ back down at the parking area around 4pm
Here's an enlargement of the general trail location:
Yesterday we got to check out the progress the Forest Service has made this year on the new Monument trail. Itís going to be an awesome new trail opening even more riding possibilities with the TRT, Star Lake and Cold Creek Trails.
Great alignment with fun terrain and views of High Meadow, Monument Peak, Trimmer, Jobs and Freel. At the top of Cold Creek Trail the new Monument trail will snake around a drainage filled with aspens which were just starting to turn golden yellow and some granite rock out crops too. We had 16 TAMBA volunteers show up along with Jacob from the USFS showing us around. We were hand building the lower Ĺ mile of trail out of High Meadow, buffing out and finishing trail from the mini-excavator that left a nice 30Ē tread.
The trail is not ready to ride and does not connect through yet. The Forest Service only has 7 people working out there until October 15th and thereís still about half the trail that needs to be built including some massive rock work. If all goes well, itíll be open around Aug 1st next year.
