NEW 24 HOUR RACE!!! The Hammerstein 8- 24hr race

Got this e-mail yesterday about this new event in Monterey, Ca. Race will be held at Laguna Seca raceway. The Hammerstein 8- 24 hour MTB race. Looks like great time. Web site says there is power, hot showers, chip timing.
Here is the map of the course and logo I got off the web site. I have never raced there. How is the riding there? I am in for the 8hr race!!!

Where did you get the course? There's nothing listed on their website.

8 hour would be fun, but if snowjnky is riding 8 hour solo then I should just give up.

If there is an option for 24 hour relay teams, then I say we form one. We have several riders here who can whoop ass for hours on end, why not combine our powers into a fighting force of extraordinary magnitude?

Clint - This looks like a lot of fun. I guess if you've never ridden there - these trails are flowy & sandy, mixed singletrack/FR with not a lot of trail features to make it technical other than the occasional rutting. I don't know what it's like to ride for 24 hrs., but I'd probably want a pretty cruisy course for those sleepy laps, and this is it.

worst part is when it's fogged in at night and you can't see past your front wheel!

After soloing for the past 10 years I'm gonna mix it up as a 2 person 24 hour with JMS on his birthday, should be painful and fun.

Does anyone know how long the lap times should be? I've got to figure out how to do the least amount of laps so the birthday boy gets the fullest first time 24 hour experience. I think I have to do at least one lap to qualify as a team

Hammerstein 24 $10,000 cash? Is that true?

I had a very interesting conversion with few racers in Santa Rosa last weekend that are doing the Hammerstein 8 & 24 and there seams there is a rumor going around that the Hammerstein is giving more away more than just free beer!!
They said that they are giving $10,000 in cash between the top 8 hour racers and the Top 24 hour racers.
There is nothing on the web sit about $10,000 ? Anyone out there here that rumor? I am not in that category anyway but it will be nice to see the best hammering it out for some big cash!!
It's nice that 24 hour racing is back at Laguna Seca!! After racing Sea Otter I need get me some redemption after my last performance

Sorry MTNBKR77 - no GPS track but did a pre-ride last weekend, pretty easy to sort out what trails to follow if you compare the race map to the ft ord map, trails were super fun, lots of climbing and the lovely fireroad haul out is always a joy - pumped to race out there!
