Everyone's welcome to join. The full Soda Springs climb is ~1hr and 2400ft. We'll do a casual pace and try to do a no drop ride. Bring warm gloves and an extra layer for the DH.

Soda Springs Rd. is like a good belgian beer; fairly smooth, doesn't go higher than 11-12% and there are some fruit notes up on top.

I heard someone will be there attempting 4 loops. We'll cheer her/him on.

All I have to add is 339 ft for the weekend. Was at the first round of the Kenda Cup in San Diego and there was so much snow on the regular course that they had us ride this little CX-style circuit around the start/finish area. Unfortunately, the course was almost entirely devoid of anything resembling elevation change.

I figured out how to message all 75 members. Basically, an admin (urban, squashyo) can post a note. The note is displayed on the club page and an email is sent to all members.

I sent a message to everyone reminding them to join the KOM challenge.

Don't pop the cork yet but keep it on standby.

OK, so here's how it went:

    (door opens)
    Wife: Hey, your home early?
Squashyo: Heyyyyy. Wow, you look amazing! Are you losing weight or something? Ya know, we should start up date night again!
    Wife: (Stares...long silence)
Squashyo: Say, I was thinking of going for a super quick ride. Did you get a haircut, you really look terrific!
Wife: (long pause) Dude, you went for a ride this morning. You seriously have a problem...
    Squashyo: (Grovel, pander, whine)
Wife: Just be home by 6.

Wasn't going to end the month on 48,500. Hit Kennedy loop...50k+ for the month. Thanks Strava and MTBR for increasing my monthly average by 10k...please rain soon...I need a break.

Really wanted a rest day today but took one for the team and put 4400 more footies into the total. Not that we need it - looks like we're pulling away, unless Mission has something in reserve.

Next month is going to be brutal

You guys are unbelievable....in a good way! I am inspired to ride a LOT more and hit the climbs more too. I have no idea how you all do the footies you do but I will do my best to add to it in the coming months.

I have been a Strava member since they got started (or close to it) and I think this competition is going to drive you people insane!!! Hahaha. If I didnt know any better I would say you are all a little competitive....just a tad!!!!

Only got in 3500 today but it was all singletrack. Barely made it to work on time.

As for Strava codes...they are all gone for now...I might be able to swing some more next month but I think my source is getting a bit sour at me for asking so much

Also Francois...not sure if possible but maybe next month MTBR can put up some swag for our own KOM and QOM or something. Not that the guys at the top need any more motivation...they all crazy.

    Dude,
Once the weather turns for the better, I'm gonna drag your butt out for more evening rides with me. It's a lot easier to motivate when you have someone pushing you.

I just had to get one more ride in for the month. I couldn't end the month so close to 40,000', so I put in a Hwy 9 climb today to put me over. Not to bad considering that I had the flu for one week and couldn't ride at all plus the cold/wet weather the last few weeks (I had to ride in the snow on Saturday on Skyline to get from 9 to 84).

I have a feeling I'm gonna be doing a lot of elevation in the coming months. I think it's gonna be a brutal summer

Love this....good stuff. Thanks for the laugh...I've been there more than a few times.

BTW - I checked the KOM Challenge FAQ's and everyone has until two days after the end of the month to upload rides, so this thing really isn't over until 3/3. Looks like the team has a bit of a cushion right now, but I imagine Mission will keep recruiting others that haven't signed up yet.

"You can upload rides for a particular month up to two days after the end of the month. So rides for this February, for example, will be accepted into the competition so long as they are uploaded by the end of March 2nd."

WTF???? HOW.......just HOW do you climb that much in a single day?? I either need to get my hands on some PED's or just give my bicycles away! I dont think I could ever do that - especially on a week day.

I dont even know if I could do that in a week!!!

Nice work on the Belgian bar ends! I have them (from Affligem Triples) on both my bikes:

Anyhow I managed another 5,498 feet today. I felt great; could have gone and done Soda Springs for an additional 3,000 feet if there was a way for me to refill one of my water bottles, and perhaps had another 500 or so calories of snacks to munch on. All in all, I feel as though my February contributions were sufficient, all things (*cough* heavy-ass bike with 9 pound rear wheel *cough*) considered, and also missing one week due to the flu. Tomorrow I will aim highóif Santa Teresa is open tomorrow, I will just loop up and down and up and down and up and down all day long, as they have full restrooms and a place to fill up on water with. I could in theory rack up 8,000 feet before getting tired.

In summary, I hope this is itó I hope we did it. We sure rode our asses off. Letís make every month matter. Unemployed people such as myself have the upper hand, but donít let that be the only reason to ride.

    GOOD WORK, EVERYONE!

    last rides for February

Had to go big today after coming up short a few times this week. Got 7000+ on a double summit adventure on Mt Diablo. Not quite dead yet, I changed bikes and went into Briones searching for more footies. Found another 1800+ and then just hit the wall. Cold and tired, I went home before they even closed up for the night.

OK, thank God that February is over and in the books. There is no way that I can keep up that pace for another month. I will continue to log my rides in the competition, but I don't plan to take every opportunity to ride. I would really like to see the names at the top of the chart rotate somewhat each month just to keep things fresh.

The mtbr juggernaut is really gaining steam! So who has what it takes to make a run for the top of our chart in March? Step right up and see if you have the right stuff. I wish all competitors well and may the most determined rider prevail.

I looked through MTBR's rides today and am absolutely blown away by what people put in as a last day effort. When I was heading up my first climb tonight, my thoughts were if we didn't win Feb, it wasn't going to be from lack of trying.

Well done, and big props even if we end up 2nd on March 3rd and Strava's fat female cyclist has sung.

We should feel lucky February didn't end on a Saturday...

The month isn't quite over yet, so who knows what may be posted, but as of now, we are only 47K behind Mission for the year. Another big month like this and we could take the Overall lead.

Of course, I don't think Mission is going to take losing February (if, in the end, they do) laying down.

Marco and I hit sierra rd 3x again tonight. It was as hard as I though it would be. I completed my monthly goal but really wanted to add to the team total. Marco has been really adding up the miles- impressive!! I was going to try for an even 6k but was running out of time and I was cold to the bone. I did manage to take almost 30 seconds off my descent time down Sierra. A few times I started to get sideways and was skidding towards the guardrail . I survived and got home. I downed a Shiner Bock beer and it is nighty night for me. Hope we did it. I managed 27.2K for 9 rides. Not too bad. Good job everyone. Oh I also took an Ambien so I better stop typing before I start friending hot girls and my wife see. Josh, your post made me laugh. Sounds exactly like the tactic I used to buy the GPS unit. They know we do it but they fall for it every time. You get to keep your man card.

I kinda hate to say this, cause I really love coming to this thread and being inspired, but as a former intelligence analyst I have to say sudden cessation in communications techniques and protocols seldom signals anything you want to see from the enemy/threat.

Not sure how cut throat you guys want to play it, but I'd suggest a secure forum for known participating members for any further comms...unless of course you know how to play the counterintel game and know how to screw with them...always the more fun option, IMHO

I'm really proud to be a part of this team. Everyone made big efforts to move us straight to the top this month. Special recognition goes to MrCrash and sparkyJay who, at this moment, sit in 15th and 19th respectively for the February mens competition. As Steve Jobs would say, "Incredible.. amazing... unbelievable... awesome!"

The KOM challenge has definitely pushed me to ride much more than usual. I looked over the past year of lazy inconsistent riding and calculated that I averaged a little under 10K of elevation per month. This month I did a tad bit more. I think the graph explains it much better.

Wow, what an incredible final push and that on a Monday.
Here's the 5000+ feet club for Monday (hope I didn't forget anyone):
    Justin Williams 8662

For March we're not even showing up yet in the standings. Maybe we're a bit tired? Listen to Shiloh and take some time off to spend with your family.

Paul: KOM title on the descents is NOT worth dying for. Skidding close to the guardrail or crossing into the other lane are signs you're going too fast. Please be safe.

It is official - mtbr.com won the February KOM! There's a shout-out on the Strava blog to Patrick and "In Search of Footies" too!

Mine was split between a few rides.

    Morning: 1,827
    Evening: 2,609
    Late Evening: 778

Finished up my evening ride around 10 PM, and saw I was 178 or so feet out of 15th place. So I threw my gear in the dryer for 10 minutes, saddled up and did that last 778 feet:

    Total for the day: 5,214

My @ss wants nothing to do with a bike saddle for the next couple of days. Thinking of going swimming...

    fc - 2200 feet
    wife -1500
son - 800 up fremont older
    daughter - 400 on alleycat
dog - at least 150 feet chasing squirrels.

Please be more thorough next time.

Ok, just kidding. But here's the good part. My wife picked me up from the airport at around 11am.
fc: "Great to see you. You ready to ride for KOM?"
wife: "yeah but we only have an hour and half."
fc: "ok let's take the car and the roadbikes to the base of mt. eden road then so we're not wasting BS time on flat roads.
wife: "sure. But I don't like climbing."

Aren't riders allowed to upload February rides until March 2nd (at least)? Maybe we should hold off with the celebrations until we're sure Mission doesn't spring a surprise on us.
What about a ride and pot-luck bbq party at Santa Teresa Park or Steven's Canyon Park for team mtbr.com?

Thanks for the advice JL. I appreciate the care, I really do. Just so you know, I added a bit of drama when I wrote that. I do like to go fast but I also have family to report to so they keep me in check. I won't risk my life (most of the time) to get a record. That is my excuse for the uphill KOM's. I can say I didn't get the record because I was afraid I might blow a gasket or two. I know, I am not fooling anyone.
As for the team effort, all I can say is wow!! Lots of miles put in yesterday and last night. It did get me thinking that there is a bar graph missing from the Strava site. Right by the miles logged and elevation graph, there needs to be "resentment of your spouse/significant other" meter. We might win the month competition but we will all end up living in a one bedroom apartment with weekend visitation of our kids. Luckily for me my wife and daughter are super supportive. I will make it a point to spend some time with them this weekend for sure. They actually kind of got into the competition and asked me where our team standing was at.

Jl- sounds like a good plan to me. We could organize a big Santa Teresa group ride and BBQ after.

What would we do without statistics

I second the beer thing. But here's why we won:

    <p align="center"><img border="2" src=" http://californication.mtbguru.com/pics/Various/StravaKOMFeb11graph.jpg"></img>
    </p>

Besides a solid base of ~20,000 ft riders, we had a significant contingent of +50,000 ft freaks that Mission didn't have...

Congratulations to you, MrCrash, for finishing at the top of the chart. Over 71,500 feet of ascent in one month.

Haha! Yup, I was watching. I saw your morning ride and hoped that you would be done for the day. I wasn't about to spend my evening riding uphill forever and hoping that I was gathering more footies that you (probably) were. I was cold and tired so it was tough enough passing your last known ride. The moral of the story is to get all you can during the month and go big when you can.

    7244 - Diablo
    1836 - Briones (night)
    9080 - Total (new PB)
Now I know why I feel so thrashed today and no, I probably won't ride at all today. Probably.

Now, did someone say something about some beer?

    A scholar and a cyclist...

What are the green and purple lines?

Also, when did we join this challenge?
