    Mills Peak Trail Expansion (yes!)

A big win for the Lost Sierra today. You can say goodbye to the jeep road section. The reroute has been approved. Many thanks to my riding buddy Phil (Schril on mtbr) as well as the Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship (SBTS) tribe who helped so much on this project. Most of all a huge shout out to Tom and Scot and the rest of the crew at Ibis Cycles, they worked on the trail and supported this project from the start.

It's taken awhile and taken some careful crafting, but the partnership and support of the Beckwourth Ranger District is looking really good.

In the near future we hope to also expand the trail network on the south side to provide access to the summit of Mills from Gold Lake Road.

Stay tuned for more info, including plans moving along for the incredible Mohawk Rim Trail.

My sweetie Melinder getting' after it on Mills.

Yes! Nice work and big thank you to all involved. I just rode Mills on Thursday, probably my all time favorite trail. It's in great shape right now too! It'll be even sicker with the jeep road section gone.

The jeep road was the "huge ugly mole with hairs growing out of it" on the otherwise beautiful face of the Mills Peak Trail. I hope the dermatologist does a good job on this one.
Consciousness, that annoying time between bike rides.

This is awesome! I cant wait to ride it. I hated that jeep trail section, especially on my small travel bikes.

Kudos to Ronski to resurrect and persevere to get the trail completed. It has been a long slow process that has put a new meaning on staying positive and being dedicated for the greater good that reaches far beyond the trail. It also emphasizes the importance how working together with the USFS and other user groups positive things happen. In my humble opinion, this was nothing short of a monumental task which will be finally be completed once the new section is ridden.

The new section of trail will give the trail a whole new feel from start to finish. It will also give the trail user new options if riding from the bottom for an out and back.

Awesome news. The fire road section is a bit of a beast to climb, without which the whole climb is actually quite fun, and it was a terrible waste of perfectly good elevation on the way down. I'm a fan of riding Mills out-and-back from the bottom and this will be a major step forward to making this a premier trail!

Thanks for asking. The crews are currently tied up with some grant driven projects so I'm not sure when we'll start. I wish we could get some initial work done soon with the tractor so we could host some volunteer days. At least the crews are working on other fun projects.

On another note, we did some more scouting today on the Mohawk Rim Trail along a section just north and below Haskell Peak. Incredible terrain that will be part of a trail from Mills Peak to Beckwourth Peak.

I'd love that. It's been talked about but the plate is pretty full right now.

Yes that was us. Glad to meet you. We enjoyed the ride very much and look forward to doing it next year with the new section.
