List your favorite trail in Nor Cal to ride. It can be anywhere from the Bay Area to Truckee and so forth. Mine right now is FHDL but I have alot more exploring to do.
I have a warm spot in my bosom for Bolinas Ridge Trail... still, after many years of riding better or funner trails, this one remains my favorite. Can't explain it.
Right now Oat Hill Mine is my favorite because it's what's in the best shape around here. Plus it's long and awesome and may take me a lifetime to master.
There are a lot of places in Nor Cal that I haven't been to though.
Forest City: climb Sandusky up to Big Tree, out and back Truckee Ditch(to top of Yolanda Mtn), down Ridgerunner, back up Pliocene Rd to Big Tree, then down Sandusky. Perfect singlespeed trail!
Ok, I live here, so am prejudiced... but have to say, the more I ride here on Montara Mountain, the more I discover the "other" trails, etc., etc., the more I love this place. On a nice day you cannot beat the views (well... TRT has some good views too, but that's fresh water and doesn't count!). On the foggy days you still have the mountain. And, if what I saw at the GGNRA open house comes to fruition, its only going to get better (much better)!
I lived up there as a kid and hiked it many times always visualizing myself on my BMX bike shredding it. As an adult always wondered if it'd be worth the trip on my MTB...
a lot of what i like has been mentioned, so here are a couple more.....in the mtns, i'd add dlrt to the list, and closer to the bay area, fhdl and probably confluence as well.
Favorite 'trail' is to get to the top of Eagle Peak in Stanislaus National Forest then go back to Strawberry via Eagle Peak, Hammill Canyon, Snake Dance, and Lower Pinecrest Peak trails. Plural, yes, but 4000+ feet of vert in this connection.
