I don't know anything about the guy except that I have been accused multiple times of being him, so, of course I would have liked the guy.

What do you miss about the "old MTBR"? How has the site changed, in your opinion? I know there is a certain troll who likes to create trouble but, you're going to get that on any public forum.

You mean back in the Stone Age? There are way too many people watching forums, Facebook, instagram...gotta filter some of what gets said publicly. I don't think it's the Mods we need to worry about...it's the crazy hiker groups in Marin and Bezerkley. Oops, I didn't use my filter

I'm pretty sure this is Tomcat. Same neurotic behavior just can't leave it alone once on a roll.

Got it started too with that wearing lycra all day at Sea Otter and gets bent out of shape. Thinks everyone is screwed up but him.

That's exactly how Tomcat was. Said front brakes were too strong that he endo'd and that they should come with a warning label.

Said the same thing over and over in 100 posts.

I am inclined to believe that guy is a sock-puppet of some other user here...possibly even FC...wont change my mind unless he posts a photo of exactly what he looked like, including his bike that gets so many compliments, during the SOC-Lycra-Debacle.

For that matter...FC is probably Tomcat too.....

On the other hand, this new guy is kinda entertaining: "Never underestimate the stimulation of eccentricity." ~ N. Simon

I do what I can, but I'm only mildly eccentric and can't compete with crazy. Regardless, enjoy him while you can since he has started to tug on Superman's cape!

lol, I'll have to look him up.

I have a knack for spotting those with former head injuries, not gonna say why though.
Is this just his consistent behavior or had he 'changed' ?

I sure hope he wasn't terribly injured pre hiatus or any other time though.

Here is the Tomcat. It's deleted on this site but I found it on Internet archive. Interesting at first but you can see the mental state deteriorate.

    Right.
Some of that was a bit entertaining and there were some obvious fans but not playing well with others or losing the filter between brain and mouth or the keyboard action can be a problem. One that some laugh at though.
The little bit I've read seems like MTB411 is a worthy impostor if not the real deal.

Maybe those that miss TC are happy now ?

All the best - read on !! lol

Maybe I lost track of Tomcat's posts when they were trending, but he seemed a bit less angry than the current incarnation. This new one seems real adversarial to everything and everyone.

I think the common thread is you see the smarts but lack of product knowledge coupled with insecurity. Then day by day or hour by hour you see the mental state unravel.

Kind of fun to watch the trainwreck.

I was wondering if MTB411 is indeed an impostor who is Over Acting.

It's possible the real TC isn't impressed (or wouldn't be) with this new rendition but I suppose calling him out might invoke further mayhem.
His worst fear could be that of being discovered a fraud.

I also thought the spewing narratives and outbursts of the differing member names were incongruent but I don't have nearly the history of that exchange as many others here. Got to admit though from my perspective, the name calling and ranting was quickly getting more sad than entertaining. I'm thinking I could have channeled that as an 8th grader - spoiled brat. Might have even outshined him !

On the first episode with the front brake, he started to unravel al soon as we questioned him, aka modulate the front brake.

On this one, he started lured us in and acted normal for a couple days before detonating.

That front brake topic was really wound up. It was quite funny, and to think we all must abide by his authority when he cannot comprehend fine motor skills and subtleties of safe braking. Then his rant about everthing else, man I'm giggling again....

Yeah, noob walks into a room of informed mountain bikers and starts ranting and raving. Everyone knows he's the village idiot but him.

Worth reading ... even if just for the psychedelic personality on display I suppose.

It does make some sense to me in his dilemma there.
Here, we can wonder, roll our eyes, laugh or shake our head at his written accounts and conversational topics or rants ... from afar.

In person, I can understand a little bit goes a long way or it gets a bit uncomfortable maybe even creepy. Most folks have a good sense of things being or sounding 'a little off ' so they are not wrong or impolite to back away and move on.
How one presents, body language and clothing etc... is a whole bunch of other factors that play into our daily interactions with others. Most of us take a personal accounting of these things before we leave the house.

My advice would be dress like the locals and blend in for a strong possibility of being seen and treated as others or 'normal' and not wander into conversational tangents that get eerie.

Or Plan B; Get one of them Star Wars costumes to wear like they have all over Las Vegas and expect everyone to stare and act a bit funky.

As entertaining as the whole Tomcat/Pete/pvd/mtb411/etc. body of work can be, it's also sad watching somebody start to implode before our eyes.

Online forums can be cathartic; like an analyst's couch, a confessional with a priest, a sympathetic bartender's ear.

Not sure where MTBR users fit in the above list but "you get what you pay for" comes to mind.

Glad I could be of some help.

Some people talk bigger, more colorful, bold or aggressive on forums because they can reinvent themselves and have a bit of anonymity.

Difficult to know how genuine they are.
Adding to that, the responses and comments that branch off from a post or discussion don't always calm things down.
Sometimes it builds to a crescendo and still, we have to wonder if that was the objective or not.

    Hah , yes.
I guess we are left to a few ideas that doesn't excuse that behavior but might be reasons. Fight with significant other, recent road rage incident, bad coffee or O.D on coffee, personality disorder etc....

Maybe it's good they vent here instead of spending the day running over rabbits and squirrels.
