How much beer do you drink

On normal weeknights I usually have 1 with dinner. Weekends maybe more. Today I already had 2 pints after my ride and more is sounding quite appealing with the oppressive heat.

Griffin- Pro tip: Never post drunk!

I have one beer on most days, usually a beer when I get home from work and a glass of wine with dinner. I had a dank IPA (Sante Adairius Flyleaf) post-ride today at Beer Thirty that was exquisite. 12 ounces and I was buzzed.

You definitely have to watch hydrating with beer in the heat. I have a little rental in Joshua Tree. I've been there in the summer doing some work and it's really easy to throw a few back before noon!

I don't drink nearly as much as I should.

The more I drink the night before, the less likely I am to ride the next day. Hence I rarely drink. I enjoy beer! I just enjoy riding more.

Twice, maybe thrice a week. 1 pint each time.

I discovered beer 10 years ago. Before then, I just drank it since it was around.

On one hot day, I discovered how sweet Lagunitas actually was. Took three years of drinking it.

Anyway... I did Stouts and Porters then Belgians. I really wanted to learn about Belgians so I tried maybe 300 different varieties.

Then I moved on to IPA's. I've tried hundreds. The cool thing is I travel a lot and meet a lot of people so it's an instant connection like biking. Most cities and small towns around the country have their revered brewery so it's cool to learn about them.

On the post-rides, the way I drink beer is only about 2 ounces of each one. So I get to try 5-10 of all the stuff friends bring.

Anyway, I changed my diet to vegan then veggie. Beer is the same and unrestricted and I feel a shit ton better. Lost 7 lbs and my beer belly went away.

Here's some of my beer exploits. I used to buy tons and give most of them away. But now, they're no longer approved in my expense reports.

If I've been a good boy I'll have a daily 12 oz IPA or such; if I've been exceptionally good I'll crack a bomber. Or really exceptionally good I'll do 12+22. I can force myself to stop at that point because that's probably well past the "healthy" limit.

Of course the amount of calories in beers in the 7%+ ABV range is really what needs to be considered. Body weight comes into that calculation; I'm a Clydesdale but probably wouldn't be if I cut out those beer calories. Life is too short not to enjoy good beer/wine/food.

Also, goddam the beer buyer at the Gilroy Costco for a good selection!

I try and save my beer consumption for Saturday where I tend to have 3 or 4 IPA's. I do like wine but have that twice during the week with dinner 1-2 glasses.

Those of you who think you might be better off without drinking ... give it a try? I'm better without it and probably won't go back but everyone is different. It saves money and for some ... wear and tear on the mind and body. I had a doctor visit where I was told my liver function was slightly off. Not a big deal and the doctor was an addiction specialist. He suggested I stop for a month or two then come back for another blood test. I followed his advice and just dropped it.

About 1 A DAY for the past few years but somehow that equates to 10 or so a week.

Got to admit though, 10 day weeks and I get get a lot more done.

"Ride" is the interval between drinking beer. So I am not sure how that would work.

    Hah, Good for you.

I once mentioned a ride I was on where three of us had a beer "mid ride" (a term I use when it's time to take in the sights below, breathe in some dense mountain air and get ready to aim the shadows the other direction).

Holy Crap did that get some crazies out of the wood work.
Seemed it was the nuttiest thing a few of them had ever heard (fellow beer drinkers too!).

When it comes to beer, riding and aging, I exercise the same motto... pursue a flight to quality.

Go for the good stuff. Find the best stuff and really enjoy it. Don't settle for crap you don't like. Life is too short and we have to seize the day. Know your limit though.

The problem is that they keep making good beer! If all beer was sh°tty (coors, buttweiper, pabst, hammís, corona, etc.) then I could for sure give it up.

Meanwhile, I have cut down a bitÖ working two jobs gives a person less leisure time.

Well ... did you answer your own question? Bottom line is if you are better off without it then stop for a week or two and see if you like it. I stopped 12 ish years ago to clean up for blood work. May drink again someday may not. It's cool when someone else quits and says ... I was following your lead!

I love a beer after a ride like most here, but I try to avoid on weeknights, and allow myself 1, max 2 on weekend nights. Any more than that, and I am toast! But women can't handle as much as men.

Right now, trying to quit for a while and see if it helps me.

I need to get me some lederhosen!

Do baggies with suspenders count? (new fashion statement I call dibs)

Anyway this is the day of the week I celebrate with more than one beer; started off with a 12 oz Lagunitas IPA and now I'm working through a 22 oz Ninkasi First Rule. One flowed into the other which both being IPAs I guess they should.

Just about anything counts on Oktoberfest once you get enough beers and you it don't matter what you wear anyways.

But on a typical Oktoberfest dance I will drink 8 to 11 beers for a six hour period, but that whole time I'm dragging women out of the audience to dance so I'm burning it off anyways.

The Kilt works very well just don't jump up and down or do any cartwheels in front of the mostly family-oriented crowd if you get my drift.

    Does whiskey count as beer?

In seriousness - somewhere between 5-6 a week, one of which may be a large format Belgian. I started home brewing earlier this year. My latest batch tastes like stale farts, so I've been drinking more wine recently.

My beer endurance is low right now since I don't eat that much, specially meat and pork rinds. Taste buds are good though.

    12 ounces and I'm good.

I had two All Day IPAs last night, and an Odell 90 Shilling a couple of days ago. I may have a beer tomorrow or Friday, but I don't enjoy more than two really, ever, these days.

I have a few a week, usually one or two in a day. But there are times I go weeks with out. When I am drinking I try to drink the better beers, which I know is subjective to what a good beer is.

Back in Wisconsin we used to make boilermakers with Bell's Two Hearted and Maker's Mark.

It was surprisingly tasty and, once imbibed, allowed you to perform feats of great strength.

1-2 beers maybe 3 times a week. Either growler fills from SARA/Humble Sea or something in cans from Lupulo/Beer Thirty.

Based on all of the mountain bikers I know, there's some serious lack of honestly in this thread!

If I didn't drink beer I'd be too skinny.

Although to be perfectly honest, I've taken stretches where I don't drink at all and I felt like my muscles and body were actually slower to recover for rides the next day. Not what I expected, at all.

Just for the sake of honesty, I drink nightly, too much, and often cheap beer. I drink during fun rides and often have a beer before an enduro or dh race. After a race there are no limits. I don't drink before or during work or while driving. I almost never drink hard liquor or wine because I'm too busy emptying shelves at corner stores. Weird thing is, I buy one at a time. In the stores in my hood many times a night. Don't be like me, it will probably kill me.......

PLINY KILLERS - Here are some truly amazing, attainable beers. Lagunitas Born Yesterday IPA and Modern Times SpaceShip Earth Pale Ale. Lagunitas 12 of Never is good too.

As bad as Ballast Point is failing now with their dozens of versions of Sculpin, Lagunitas, California and Modern Times Beer are killing it.How much beer do you drink-img_1533.heic.jpg

Pliny killer just means it's worthy of consideration.

Pliny is legendary since it was key in the floral IPA revolution. But many, many beers have surpassed it now. I still love it. It's just not worth the effort.

I went for more 'Born' but found some Crux too. Now that is the true Pliny Killer. I think there's about 10-20 beers now (bottled/canned) better than Pliny, in the floral/fruity IPA style. And this is Crux Half Hitch is one of them.

How much beer do you drink-img_1600.heic-1-.jpg

That being said, Pliny, Hopslam and Heddy Topper are still true currency beers that you can gift someone or trade and get the goods for.

Good beer has been my vice of choice for many years, well... besides mountain bikes and dirt bikes. With that said as of late I've been only buying one 4 pack of cans per week. And that is usually more than enough for me. And with the insane variety around the Sacramento area I get to try something new every week.

    Right on.

To answer the original question... I'm down to 2-3 beers a week now. High quality only if possible since I can't do the volume.

If there's a lot of beers to try... just 2 ounces each.

I buy a lot of beer but mostly for sharing is caring.

I don't really have a schedule that I could track. I will say that typically during the week if I'm not riding I'm not drinking. If we go out to eat somewhere I'll probably order a beer or a glass of wine. After a ride, there is at least 3-4 beers depending on what the alcohol content is. As someone said above, I'm a clyde so that could be equivalent to one beer for some of you guys. I'd say typically one day of the weekend I'll catch a pretty good buzz. I don't typically count. I would say I'd pay attention to how often I buy beer but we are a really social household so there is someone always at the house helping me with the beers!
