Is Hole In the Ground open yet?

Freaking bleak year on the snow front. Stuck in the Bay Area for the next 2 weekends - it's only March 15 and I'm wondering if I'll still be able to ski in Tahoe after that.

Driest January and February on record in California

So, might as well get the HITG thread started.

...and the first half of March hasn't been all that different on the rain front.

I can foresee some Tahoe riding in early May.
Faster is not always better, but it's always more fun

That's funny! But seriously. I feel sorry for resort riders. This season has been great in the back country.

Sad thing is that I'm sure there are people driving up to ride it thinking its clear today.

Nice, some good hidden stashes dropping off the ridge into cold stream back there ;-)

It sounds like Dville is pretty much open now. Still a bunch of snow at HITG? (serious question, I honestly have no clue).

No. There is still a decent amount of snow above 7500' on north and east facing aspects. Wouldn't try it for at least a couple more weeks. Plus along the crest get more snow than anywhere around here.

Yeah, not a chance. Its always the last to open, still a lot of snow at summit lake, I would say mid June if the the temps stay as cool as they have been.

Tried to ride HITG today. I made it to the summit from the gate at the top parking area in 1:10. There is still a lot of snow(mostly hiked HITG proper). I am guessing two weeks for the loop to be passable.

I tried it today and tuned around before the summit ccw. I met another rider that tried to push through, but ran into snow fields on the down, lost the trail and turned around.
