Giro di Pacifica,June 29th Adds Mt Bike Short+Long Loops

The Mountain Bike Ride (Short Loop & Long Loop)

    NEW for 2013!

    Benefit For PARCA...

The Mountain Bike Ride (Short Loop & Long Loop)

In recognition of Pacifica's standing as one of the Bay Area's top mountain biking destinations, this year we've added an off-road course, placing the Giro di Pacifica among the handful of charity rides in the country to offer a recreational mountain bike ride option. And what a ride it is...

Exclusively for the Giro, Parca has been granted one-day only access to a private trail, normally off-limits to cyclists, with unforgettable views of Devils Slide and the spectacular coastline.

You have a choice of two recreational ride options, both of which access the private trail and are designed to be enjoyed at a casual pace:

A "short loop," designed to offer beginner-intermediate level mountain bikers a chance to get out for a fun, casual ride of 8.6 miles and 1,310 feet of climbing and descending in world-class scenery.
For stronger, advanced-level riders, a "long loop," provides multiple hours of challenges and enjoyment; with 2650 feet of climbing and descending to the top of North Peak and back, this route is a great way to test your endurance.
Loops may be repeated as time permits. (Please note that the gate to the private trail will be closed at promptly 2:30pm.)
All trails used are Multiple-Use trails, and you may encounter others recreating on the day of the event, so we ask you to please exercise extreme courtesy when encountering all others when riding the mountain bike routes.

Check our Check-In/Start Schedule page for starting times and additional details. You can also “Follow” Giro on Twitter or “Like” us on Facebook, to receive regular Giro information updates.

The proposed Giro mountain bike routes are currently under review by various state and local government agencies. We'll publish the maps as soon as we are granted approval, with the reminder that "all routes are subject to change based on CalTrans and local government requirements and/or weather conditions." Stay tuned...

    Here's the stats:

    Long Loop- 14.43 miles and 2,339' climb+descend
    Short Loop- 8.6 miles and 1,310 climb+descend

Apologies in advance on the sparse info.
We have multiple irons in the fire w City,State,County,Private overlords, emergency services and until we have them signed(paid) off on the dual routes, we are in a holding pattern.
The outcome looks good, don't want to cast a shadow on this happening, it's just a huge amount of hoops that need jumpin through.
    More as I get it.
    Jim

In January I had the opportunity to pre-ride the route with Jim (to grab a gpx track)…

    Jim the Tour Guide:

Here are some of the different views of the new bridge:

Those were taken in areas which are not normally open to the public but the landowner has granted permission for this event.

A view down to the shore and the old Highway 1:

It was great talking with Jim. We discovered that we are the same age, both grew up in Palo Alto, and went to the same church.

    The view from North Peak:

    The awesome Mr. ssulljm!

    Great riding with you Jim!
